How to Protect Yourself During the Flu Season!

A disease called influenza which is transmitted from one person to another easily. This infection affects mostly nose, eyes, throat and bronchi, but it affects lungs very rarely. One can easily catch cold and cough by coming in contact with any other person suffering from influenza.

When such a person sneezes or coughs the bacteria can easily attack the other person sitting with or is in contact with the person who is suffering. The flu season is the most vulnerable time when even a healthy person can catch cold and cough easily. If one’s body has no immunity, those people are more likely to catch fever with cough and cold. Therefore as soon as the season changes, we are all advised to take proper health care and medications so that we might not catch flu. Doctors advise for intake a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, which helps in making our body immune to various bacteria.

Most of the people who suffer from flu, recover within 1-2 weeks, but then no one wishes to contract the virus.

It is important to understand as to why and how the virus spreads among people. Usually virus spreads through the saliva of the infected person when he coughs or sneezes. The infected person’s saliva in any case if touches a healthy person, he is sure to catch flu.

How to Protect Yourself During the Flu Season!

Some physical barriers to fight flu-

Barriers such as disposable gloves, surgical masks, safety eye wear and in the most extreme case, respirators, these can entirely prevent the flu bacteria from entering the body and making it week from within. Lately, when H1N1 was discovered, people at all public places were requested to wear the safety masks to prevent the spread of the disease. High traffic areas were disinfected so as to kill the lingering virus from those places. Viruses can be destroyed by direct sunlight, disinfectants and detergents.

Flu shots and nasal sprays are vaccinations that are available which can prevent a person from catching flu. But nasal sprays are strictly not for pregnant women. Children aged between 2- 5 years of age should be given flu vaccination because they are of tender age and moreover their body is not immune to the flu, so it is advisable to the caretakers of small children to get them the best flu vaccination.

NOTE: Care should be taken that the vaccination for flu should not be given to those people who are allergic to chicken or egg, moreover flu shots should also not be given to those who have a tendency to react adversely to vaccination in the past. Those individuals who have a syndrome called Guillain- Barre, should also not take the vaccination of flu.

A GOOD HYGIENE CAN SURELY HELP PREVENTING FLU.

  • Washing your hands after every meal is one such routinely step which all of us must follow and even our mothers use to get after our lives during our childhood days to wash hands and then sit down for lunch or dinner. All possible bacteria that can affect our health should be washed away before they can cause danger for us.
  • Try and be away from people who are ill or have cough and cold which is an intense one, even though you take preventive measures, you can still catch cold or cough.
  • Always keep a tissue for yourself in the carry bag or pocket, so that whenever you sneeze it should not affect any other person in your ambit.
  • Use disinfectant at your home or school, more specifically in those areas where children are around. They are more vulnerable of catching flu.
  • Always make it a point to wash fresh vegetables and fruits when you get them from the vendor.
  • Make sure you have a water purifier at your place such that you and your family both are protected.
  • Cleanliness is one way in which the spread of viruses and germs can be prevented. Washing your hands after and before every meal can be very hygienic and also shall protect you from catching flu.
  • Laughing and enjoying has proven that our immune system can work very well. Moreover this activity can help our minds to be vitalized and fresh such that we remain active throughout the day.
  • Intake a lot of water, so that you remain hydrated throughout the day. But remember one thing that you intake water after the meal and not with your food, so that your digestive system does not get diluted.

In case your colleagues catch flu.

There are a few symptoms of flu which includes fever, headache, cough, cold, sore throat, stuffy nose, stomach symptoms or muscle aches. If one experiences such symptoms one should readily go to the near doctor and get it cured. Doctors shall prescribe antiviral medications and help you get rid of the flu, but one should make sure that till the time your flu get over completely, one should avoid coming in contact with people nearby.

  • That employee should be encouraged to stay and rest at home, because the flu can be contracted by many other employees who work in the same place.
  • The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends every employee who is suffering with flu should remain at home for at least 24 hour till the time they are free of fever.
  • The management should be flexible about sick leaves being taken by the employees.

Using these natural and convenient ways to make your body strong and also your immune system, which shall aid us to stay healthy during the flu season rather than sitting at home in high fever. Take proper precautions, so that you stay protected and avoid paying doctors this flu season.

  • Drink a lot of water– this shall keep you hydrated throughout the day. Moreover drinking a lot of water shall keep you active and also protect the immune system and various other acids to accumulate in your body.
  • Keep your nose and mouth covered while travelling in a public transport, or anywhere in the public. Most of the people catch flu in public places, because not everyone is that careful when they catch flu.
  • In case anyone in the house catches flu, all others should try and come in contact with that person to a limit, because there is always a threat of other people catching the flu.
