Reasons for Higher Depression Levels in Women!

As per new studies, the reason for higher clinical depression incidences as compared to men is estrogen and serotonin levels. A research has taken place in Canada and Sweden to track the reason of depression in both the sexes, after scanning the brain; they came up with following outcomes.

Female body is very sensitive and reluctant as compared to the men. The body of women goes under various changes at different stages of life whether it is puberty, marriage or pregnancy and then menopause. This makes the body of the women very fragile in nature, more prone to hormonal changes and thus leading towards depression. On the other side, men do not go under various hormonal stages and thus less prone to depression.

Neurotransmitter serotonin is a hormone responsible for depression in human mind and their level significantly differs between men and women. The depression has affected 10% of men and 40% of women. There is huge gap between the sexes. This happens mainly due to biochemical and hormonal reasons. Female body tends to have more mood swings than any other species in the world. The female brains are wired in such a way that they tend to be more anxious, change in temperament and depression, as per the research. Men do suffer from all these but women are more prone to these.

Reasons for Higher Depression Levels in Women!

A research took place in Karolinksa Institute in Sweden, they scanned the brains of both male and female, and found out that serotonin is held in the brain of a women for a much longer time as compared to male’s brain. While male brains produce the transmitter more than female brains.

There is a wide disparity between the hormonal level of male and female. The disparity between the serotonin levels is the main cause of high depression levels in females. A research took place in the Canada, at the University of Montreal and they discovered that body of women produces 52% less serotonin as compared to men’s body and that results in higher depression levels in women.

Another important reason for higher depression level in women is the fluctuating estrogen level. Due to this hormone she tends to feel happy or sad. Treating a hormone deficiency can help. So, if you are suffering from depression then it is not your fault but your hormones, blame them.
