Top Five Not To Do Things in Office!

We all want to get success in our professional life. We all want to reach to the maximum height as far as our work area is concerned. We all know that it is the combination of our talent and the smart or hard work which can provide us the opportunity to attain success not only in our professional life as well as in our personal life too.

Despite knowing the fact of the importance of hard work behind the success in our professional life, I have seen many people who do so many things which can actually kill their own career. We all are aware of the fact that only the hard work and talent can give us the success, but still we do so many things which can actually stop us to advance in our life.

Here, let me tell you one interesting fact, many people equate success with money. Frankly speaking for me money is never an aspect of measuring success. In my eight years of work life I came through many people and I found many of them lack the quality of having the right work habits, or they actually don’t want to follow them.

Here in this article I would like to share some of the bad work habits, which should be avoided by all at the work place. I am sure that this blog will help the fresher’s to identify the things not to do at offices.

Being Too Negative

Be it your personal life or professional one, being negative is one of the worst habits which anyone should avoid. I have seen many people, who usually have complaints against anything. Tell them anything, and they will come up with negative comment about it.

Always remember, positive approach towards any project or work assigned to you is something which can help you to advance in your career. A negative approach is always bad.

I can suggest you one interesting thing, as many people say that a half filled glass is actually half empty too. Some people will see that the glass is half empty, while others will see that the same glass is half filled. So there is always some negative part associated with anything in our life.

What we actually need is to identify the negative things and then try our best to overcome that negativity, and this is the real challenge. Following this will surely help you to achieve the highest level of success in your life.

Not Telling the Truth to Senior Management

Many people will have the tendency of hiding the fact with the senior management. In my opinion this is one of the worst things which anyone should avoid in their professional life. Always give the right or correct scenario to your immediate boss.

See, it is quite obvious that delays can happen with any work, but there is no point in hiding the same with your immediate boss. You should always give him/her the right picture. Tell your immediate boss about the exact reason why the delay happened or why you would not be able to meet the deadline, and what your plan is so that the same thing would not repeat in the future.

We all learn from our experiences, so there is no harm in revealing truth. So I would always suggest people not to lie about the work progress.

Buttering

One of the things which I in fact hate is buttering. Many people consider buttering as the opportunity to grow higher in their professional life. In many cases people use to love buttering and give biased decisions in the favor of those who do buttering with them. But in my honest opinion, this is not good.

I still remember one colleague of mine who became the manager of a team from an executive level in a very short span, just because he was too close to the Vice President of the company. He use to do anything to please the VP and finally he got the rewards as the VP promoted him to handle the same team, in which he joined as an executive a few months back only.

You must be thinking that after all he became the manager, and he achieved the success in such a short duration, so what is wrong with the buttering? Well, as we all know that this types of success usually don’t last longer, similar things happen with that Mr. too.

Soon the profit earning division became a burden for the company, many good talents resigned due to his inappropriate decisions and soon the company got fed up with the person and removed him along with his VP too.

Thus, buttering can give you short success, but for long run only talented people can survive in this competitive world.

Self Promotion

Many people fail to let others know about their achievements. I am not saying that you should promote yourself at your work area, but what I want to say that you should have the ability to let others know about the good works and good results of your hard work.

Frankly you achieved a target, but what if that no one is aware about it? Won’t it become a waste? So what I can suggest you all is that let your immediate boss know about the small-small achievements which you are earning from your hard work.

Also remember that you should not fear from the criticism. You should not always become self protective as well. I have seen many people who usually start showing self protective attitude towards their mistakes. It is also a big mistake in the work place, take the criticism with the positive approach and try to overcome those reasons which actually initiated this criticism.

Sudden Decisions

Well, the last but not the least things not to do at your work place is taking sudden decisions based on some small incident.

My dear friends always remember that taking right decisions is a must for us, and to get success we should need to take the right decisions only. I won’t lie about accepting the fact that I too took some wrong decisions in my eight years of career, and I still apologize for them, but my point is that I got the experience with those mistakes and thus I would always suggest fresher’s to avoid them.

One of the measure mistakes which we all do is to resign, just based on some quick incident, in my honest opinion quitting a job is not a small decision, and it should be taken after considering many facts. Let me give you a real life example. I decided to leave one company just because my boss who was the Managing Director of the company insulted me in front of my team. The anger was okay, but the decision was not okay.

So I give the second thought to it, and returned back to the work place next day with some positive attitude and proved the capabilities, and resigned after a few months when I got some better opportunity. The time when I resigned, the company realized my importance and tried to stop me too, but then as the next opportunity was much bigger than the previous one I did not give the second thought to leave that organization.

My point is that you should not take sudden decisions based on some arguments or insult made by your immediate boss. Always give a positive thought to whatever has happened and then only decide something.
