How to Increase Traffic on Your Blog?

What is the heart and soul of any blog? If you ask me it is the traffic of that blog. A blog with no visitors is actually dead. Read on my blog on how to increase traffic on your blog and apply tried and tested tips on your blog.

Is not it true that we all bloggers are always keen towards getting traffic to our blog? On the other hand a blog on a business or corporate website is one of the finest ways to bring traffic to that site.

So the basic question is how can we being more visitors to our blog? What are the ways through which we can increase the number of readers of our blog?

Quality Content 

No doubt, if you ask 10 people about how to increase traffic on your blog, 9 out of them will surely respond this term of Quality Content as the way to do it. I too agree that quality content is very much required, but do you think that only quality content has the ability to bring traffic to your blog?

Honestly, no. There are so many bloggers out here who not only write super quality content but are capable of writing on any topic related to their niche in a way that no one can put finger on their writing. But still they and their blog remain an unknown identity for many people, even for their own industry as well.

To be very frank, as I always say that I made some mistakes in past and learned so many things to generate traffic to my blog. I would love to share those experiences of mine with the readers of my blog I News India, so that they should not do the same mistakes which I made in my life.

How to Increase Traffic on Your Blog? 

So here are some of those tips which can help you to get traffic to your blog:

Professional Blog Design 

As I said above that quality content is very much required to get traffic to your blog, but only having quality content is not enough, you also need a professional blog design. Many bloggers do this mistake of using free themes, or customizing themes which are basically free. To be very frank I am not against using any free theme, but then the benefits which you can get from premium themes are far better than using free themes.

A professional looking blog does not only establish a reputation of yours, but it also helps you to get the attention of other bloggers, thus your blog start getting mentions on other bloggers.

Premium themes not only help you to establish your identity, but it has some coding and navigation flows which are being liked by search engines as well. To be very frank, those benefits are too hard to get from any free themes.

If you have the knowledge of PHP language and commands over CSS, then you can easily customize any free theme and convert it into a premium one, but then I cannot expect this ability among most of the bloggers. I myself used customized free themes for a long time, but then since I moved to current theme by My Theme Shop (which is my favorite premium themes provider) I realized the real importance and value which my blog get from it.

Investing a few bucks on the design of your blog is not that costly, in compared to the benefits which it returns. Be sure to purchase themes from reliable sources only. My recommendation would always be My Theme Shop and Studio Press only.

Ad Placements 

Honestly not many bloggers are aware that ad placement also plays a vital role in getting traffic to your blog. To be very frank, I did this mistake of placing too many advertisements on my blog which cost me heavy in the past.

To be very frank, if you placed so many ad blocks on your site, it will certainly irritate the visitors of your site and thus your bounce rate will increase, which plays an important role these days behind the ranking of your website. Thus, placing too many and unnecessary ad blocks are dangerous for your traffic growth.

Responsive Blog Design 

How many of us know that responsive design of our blog also plays a crucial role towards getting visitors?

To be very frank if you don’t know what is a responsive blog design or what are their importances in SEO of your site, then you must read this blog post of mine: The SEO Benefits of Responsive Web Design.

As per a study mobile searches are now slowly-slowly going to overtake the desktop searches soon. Most probably by the end of the year 2014 it will have more number of searches on mobile phones than that on desktops. So the mobile friendly website is the need of the time. You need a blog which can open smoothly on a desktop, as well as on a mobile phone and on a tablet as well.

As I mentioned in a blog post on how to get rid of duplicate content issue in case of mobile site a few days back that there can be two approaches towards having a mobile friendly website and it can be either you can have a responsive site design, or you can have another website with a sub-domain like m.sitename.com for mobile users. Practically speaking I always suggest the idea of having a responsive design then having and managing two websites one for desktop users and other for mobile and tablet users.

SEO Friendly Blog 

Many of my readers are aware of the fact that my profession is SEO, and hence the search engine optimization of any blog plays an important role in my mind. Those who don’t know about what exactly is SEO can stay tuned to my blog as I have recently started a series on SEO tutorials, and the first post of this series is what exactly is SEO?

I am sure this posts and coming posts on this topic will ensure you should at least understand the basics of SEO.

So as I was telling you about how to get traffic to your blog, SEO plays a vital role in it. I am sure not all bloggers can do maintain all the stuffs required for the SEO of their blog, especially some of my non-technical blogger friends, but then they can at least install a plugin like All in One SEO Pack, or Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin for the SEO of their blog.

Along with this, I would suggest you all; to at least use tags and keywords properly with your blogs and at least use an image on each post, while images must have the alt tags with it.

Intelligent Blog Topics 

The one most important thing required for getting good number of traffics on your blog is choosing intelligent blog topics based on the requirements of your users.

As I already said many a times in past that writing for your readers is the best way to connect with your readers, hence intelligent choice of blog topics will make your blog popular, that too soon.

The idea of writing quality content is like connecting to your readers properly, so that you can have a better relationship with your readers. It will certainly increase the traffic of your blog in long run.

Other than these blogging tips you also need to blog on a consistent basis and interact with your readers on a regular basis to increase the traffic of your blog. Though all these are a waste if you don’t have a foot mark on social media sites. Remember in 2014 and coming years if you are not having a very strong impact on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube, etc. you won’t be able to become a successful blogger.

Other than all these you also need to make it easier for your blog readers to share your blog posts on those social media sites, so that they cannot have to think anything else while sharing your blog directly to those sites. Provide them the widgets through which they can share your blogs directly to the social media sites.
