Earth Day – April 22!

Today is April 22. It is generally observed as Earth Day. This day is becoming a crucial and critical these days. Many people among us are unaware of today’s significance. Earth is our home and it needs our proper care and help to flourish. It has been 38 years since the day is known for our Planet on April 22 to explore and reinforce ways to save the Earth from emissions and global warming.

Global warming is threatening life on Earth and is a major issue of concern. It is predicted that within 50 years carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will be doubled that will lead to an increase in global temperatures between 1.5 degree Celsius and 4.5 degree Celsius.

More alarmingly, on an average we dumped 70 million tons of global warming pollution a day into the thin shell of atmosphere surrounding our planet. Polar ice is melting which is raising the sea level and forecasting a risk to our life. It is predicted that within next 32 years a major part of Mumbai city will be sink under the sea.

For last many years increasing use of fuel and other harmful things is increased which destructed Earth’s environment. This destruction directly effected human beings and flora and fauna of the Earth. Food shortages are no longer just for the below poverty line segment, irrational and bad weather has become an agent of virulent change, crops are crashing, water is vanishing and the ozone hole is threatening to get bigger than the stratosphere itself.

There is a lot that can be discussed under the subject. Lot of help we can do by little efforts to make the Earth beautiful and better to live.

Internet is making people aware about the day through its own way. Google Search Engine is well-known for changing its logo on special occasions and the same is practiced by it today. Yahoo! and AOL are also following this practice. These search engines are also educating people and encouraging them to participate in this environmental friendly campaign.

But Earth Day is not all about discussing the matter on papers and to just show our concern only to the planet but it needs some quality efforts to make the day meaningful. Earth Day is a perfect time to reflect about what you are doing to help protect the environment. There are many ways that you can celebrate alone and with others.

Government can also help to save our Earth making some relevant laws and norms in favor of Green Earth. All of the efforts will happen only if the elected Government has a will and intention to do something to save the planet. Implementation of laws is the key.

But a single day is not enough to save the Earth. Don’t restrict the efforts for today only. Make every day like an Earth Day and get the positive results of your efforts on the next Earth Day.
