Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Monday has cleared that there is no changes of further loan waiver for farmers and for the time being will implement the present scheme of Rs 60,000 crore farm loan waiver package only.

“We are not in a position to take new responsibilities till the present commitments (Rs 60,000 crore farm loan waiver package) are implemented,” Sharad Pawar said replying to queries in the Lok Sabha.

More than 81 per cent farmers fall in the small and medium categories which were covered under the package.

The minister also rejected opposition’s claim that farmer were being cheated by the loan waiver scheme and said, “Let us first implement the farm loan waiver scheme presented in the budget and see the results.”

He made clear that presently government is not planning any other scheme to cover loans of farmers more than those covered by the farm loan waiver package.

Sharad Pawar also told that wheat research institutes and agriculture universities are carrying out research to develop a black rust resistant variety of wheat. The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) had issued an advisory warning wheat producing nations about the spread of the black rust disease causing virus.

“The said virus has not reached India or its neighboring countries but was first detected in 1976 and is prevalent in Uganda, Yemen and Kenya,” Pawar said.

Sharad Pawar-led NCP, the biggest party in the ruling Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is ready to support Congress president Sonia Gandhi or her son Rahul for the post of Prime Minister in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

“Congress is the biggest party in the UPA. There is no question of NCP, DMK or RJD or any other party coming close to their numbers and if tomorrow Congress decides to nominate Mrs Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, it’s not a question for NCP to decide,” NCP general secretary Praful Patel said.

Patel, the Civil Aviation Minister told that Gandhi is given a letter of support from prime minister ship four years back. There is no issue to discuss the choice for the post as Gandhi’s name is already consulted by the party.

Pawar, Union Food and Agriculture Minister, had suggested that the next Lok Sabha polls be fought under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Asked whether his party would support Rahul Gandhi if he is in a position to be nominated as the leader of the next government, Patel said, “If the UPA comes with a majority and if the Congress party so chooses, what the question is? Why is this being debated?”

Against the unfavorable remarks of party colleague D P Tripathi’s against Sonia Gandhi, Patel said that she has been very generous and she has not shown any meanness to the party.

Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble have beaten the top batsman of the world by snatching 600 test wickets in his 18 year long carrier. No other bowler of the country has won more test matches than him.

Board of Control of Indian Cricket (BCCI) has presented ‘Golden Ball’ to honour Anil Kumble, the Indian captain in upcoming series against South Africa. All the players from India and South Africa are present in the function. Sharad Pawar presented ‘The Golden Ball’ to the test captain.

Pawar said,” Kumble have taken away 604 test wickets till date and Board is going to present ‘The Golden Ball’ to him for this achievement. Kumble is the first Indian Player to snatch more than 600 wickets in test matches. I believe that every Indian should proud of him. Board is also happy for his achievement and hence ‘The Golden Ball’ will be presented to him. 37 year old Kumble have variety of records in his lap. In 1999, he had made a record of taking away all the ten wickets of Pakistan in test cricket in Delhi. He became the second bowler who took off all the wickets in a single turn.”

Kumble has crossed the target of 600 wickets this year while Australian tour. For the time being he is after Australian Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralidharan of Sri Lanka in top bowlers list.

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thakarey now aimed at BCCI member Sharad Pawar. Thakarey said that IPL organization and the auction held was not more than a Gamble. Thakeray’s statement for Sharad is published on first page of Samana in his letter. Thakeray has criticized Pawar and BCCI for the entry of business men in cricket world. Thackeray has shown his concern on the several crores auction on cricket players.

Thakeray claimed that if it will happens than country’s control will go in hands of businessmen.

Thakeray wrote in his letter published in Samana,” What is this happening in Cricket? These businessmen are putting improper money in Cricket and are terminating it. Players are bought and money is spending on them on the basis of their local status. If this money game will remain continue than Indian Government will not be needed soon. At last, business men will run the country. Stop this Gamble and save the Cricket. Do you have power to do this, isn’t it?”

Everyone is stunned on the IPL auction and for the same reason Bal Thakeray made his comment on it. It is said that this criticisms on Sharad Pawar can be because of ongoing close relations of NCP and Raj Thakeray.
