The capital city is rocked by four successive blasts on Saturday evening killing one person and injuring 40 others. According to the recent reports first blast occurred in Karol Bagh followed by 2 blasts in Cannaught Place and the fourth one in M-block market in Greater Kailash.

The first blast occured at 6:10 pm and all successive blasts happened within next 40 minutes. The recent reports say that the first explosion, reported in Karol Bagh’s famous Gaffar Market’s MCD market, was the result of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinder explosion however the exact reasons for other blasts are unknown. A second blast has been reported in Central Park of Connaught Place near Pallika Bazaar.

All blasts occured at the most crowded places of Delhi. The blasts on Barkhamba Road went off near the Metro Station. The blast in Cannaught Palace took place at Gopaldas Bhawan’s parking lot and is believed to have been kept in a dustbin.

Ambulances rushed to the blast sites and the injured have been rushed to nearby nursing homes and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Also Bomb Disposal Squads have rushed to all the affected sites which have been cordoned off and traffic diverted.

According to the recent reports, one more bomb was found at India Gate which was safely defused. Police asked people not to panic. Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh as well all Metros have been put on maximum alert.

In an email to media organisations, Indian Mujahideen, the terror outfit that had claimed responsibility for the July 26 Ahmedabad blasts, said it had carried out the serial blasts in Delhi. It threatened that there would be nine blasts in all.

Clearly the incident is pointing towards terrorism involvement. Terrorism is major problem in India. Earlier serial blasts had rocked the pink city, Jaipur followed by Ahmedabad balsts and the hi-tech city Bangalore had not remained untouched by the terror. India has to take major steps to combat this rising problem.

Fresh reports at 9:30 pm: Till now, at least 18 have been reportedly killed and over 100 have been injured in the five successive blasts in Delhi. It is feared that casuality number may go higher.

As per reports two people have been detained in the case. Police told that a boy named Rahul had claimed to have seen two terrorists dressed in black kurta pajama placing black parcels in a dustbin. Soon after this, a blast went off. He said the persons were unfamiliar and that he had seen them for the first time.

Twin blasts were then reported in GK-I’s M-Block market, which immediately shut down. The two bombs went off within 5 minutes of each other. One is believed to have been placed in a dustbin and the other in a scooter. The explosives are believed to be made of Ammonium Nitrate tied to integrated circuits

All the blasts were said to be of low intensity. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is meeting the Home Minister after which the Union Cabinet will hold an emergency meeting. She told that a compensation package will be announced after the meeting.
