Black warrant against Sarabjit Singh!
The death warrant for Indian national Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan jail has been issued. Sarabjit is charged of being his involvement in four bomb blasts in Pakistan in 1990. Sources said that Sarabjit will be hanged on April 1 in a prison in Lahore.
Sarabjit was sentenced to death for his alleged involvement in bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that killed about 14 people. The death warrant for Sarabjit was received by authorities at Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore.
After return of Indian prisoner Kashmir Singh from Pakistan jail after 35 years, there raised some hope for Sarabjit also. Sarabjit’s family denies he was a spy and claimed that he crossed the line of control by mistake. They submitted appeal to forgive. Pakistan’s Supreme Court had rejected Sarabjit’s plea for clemency in March 2006.
A mercy petition was sent to President Pervez Musharraf also but finally on March 3 Musharraf has rejected the mercy petition of Sarabjit, who Pakistan claims is Manjit Singh.
Sources said that after thorough consideration of the mercy petition Musharaff rejected it as the allegations against him ‘were proved and he was awarded capital punishment by court’.
While the death warrant issued against Sarabjit, his wife has appealed to the Indian Government to intervene into the matter without any delay.
“I don’t know what to say, I just need by innocent husband back with me,” said Sarabjit Singh’s wife Sukhpreet Kaur.
