Bollywood Tashan: disputes raised on titles!
Bollywood producers are getting into a cold war over similar titles of their films which cause confusions among prospective cinegoers. A recent case is that of “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” and “Thoda Life Thodi Magic”.
“Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” for Yash Raj Films, produced and directed by Kunal Kohli is announced to release on June 27. Meanwhile actor-producer Saahil Chadha says the name is similar to his film called “Thoda Life Thodi Magic”.
Almost similar names of the movies left the viewers in confusion and producers claim that this could dim the prospects of the other at the box-office.
Another case is that of music company Venus forthcoming movie, Kushti , in which WWW wrestling champion Khali plays himself battling with producer Anoop Srivastava over the title.
Srivastava claims that he had registered the title, Kushti with IMPPA much before Venus. Along with Kushti, he says, he had also registered two other titles, Yaaran Di…Kushti and Kushti…Ab Aayega Maza, for his proposed movie. So far, the dispute is far from over.
Similarly, there is a controversy over titles between producer Bikramjeet Singh Bhullar and actor-producer Anil Kapoor. Anil’s under-production movie is named ‘Shortkut’ but Bhullar has contended that he had registered the title, ‘Shortcut’ long before Anil conceived the idea for his movie.
To stop the battle, Anil quickly added a suffix, ‘The con is on’ to his forthcoming comedy starring Akshaye Khanna, Amrita Rao and Arshad Warsi. The movie is now ‘Shortkut… the con is on’ and has been made different from the title of Bhullar’s movie.
Using such tricks only can help to combat such disputes.
