Kasif Abbas, son of Uttar Pradesh MLA Shadab Fatima allegedly crushed down three persons under his car and injuring nine others while drunken driving in the early hours on Saturday.
“It seems to be a case of drunk driving. The teenager Kasif Abbas has been detained. Beer bottles have been recovered from the car. The medical examination has confirmed that he had consumed it. Strict legal action will be taken against all accompanying him,” UP DGP Vikram Singh told reporters.
“Seventeen-year-old Abbas was driving his mother’s red-beaconed car in an intoxicated state when he lost control over the vehicle and ran over three persons, who died on spot,” police said.
Abbas’ mother Shadab Fatima is SP MLA from Gazipur and also the Chairperson of UP Upbhokta Sahkari Sangh. Abbas was driving the car and he didn’t even have a driving license. After the incident he was arrested by the police and the car is kept in the custody.
His Tata Safari hit two motorcyclists before colliding with an electric pole and then a pan shop in the Parivartan Chowk area.
“Safari came speedily and may be to avoid the accident or whatever got on to the pavement. Some people were asleep there and they were seriously injured,” SP Akhil Kumar said adding that the car having a beacon was issued in the name of UP Upbhokta Sahkari Sangh’s President.

At least 19 people were killed in the major accident in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district on Wednesday night when a pick-up van carrying the people collided with a truck. The killed people included eight women and four children while six others were critically injured.
The accident occurred near Kanodia village, about 100 km from here on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer road, Jodhpur Superintendent of Police Sanjeeb Kumar Narzary said.
The van was on its way to Dechu from Setrawa. All the 19 bodies were recovered and kept at Dechu government hospital. The injured persons were shifted to a Jodhpur hospital.
Inspector General of Police Rajiv Dasot, District Magistrate Naresh Pal Gangwar have rushed to the spot to oversee the rescue operations.

A road accident in Hatharas district of Agra in UP left twelve people killed on the spot and two injured on Tuesday.
Sub inspector Kamal Saxena said that a Maruti van going to Hatharas from Delhi got out of control and hit a tanker. Passengers of the van Mann Singh, Surmila, Rohit, Santoshi, Sukhbir, Nitin,Rambeti, Rambir, Ram khiladi, Kanchana, Shiv Dhara and the driver died on the spot. Driver was not identified yet. Two passengers named Mamta and Geeta are injured badly in the accident. Their condition is told to be serious by now.
It was told that tanker driver ran after the incident. Police is in search of him.
