“The monsoon has reached Delhi,” Meteorological Department Director B P Yadav told PTI.

Heavy rains rushed up in the city giving relief from humid and hot weather of June.  The Meteorological Department recorded a rainfall of 15.3 mm started since 7:30 am till 11.30 am on June 15.

The cool showers lead the minimum temperature of this morning at 27.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, as recorded by Met. The maximum settled at 33 degrees C on Saturday.

The south-west monsoon was advancing across the country in much more smooth and rapid manner as compared to last year giving an experience of coolest summer in recent past.

The annual rainfall system had set in over south Andaman Sea on May 10, five days earlier than the normal onset and reached Kerala on schedule on May 31.

Rainfall during this season has been good and well distributed as compared to the previous year with 30 of the 36 meteorological sub-divisions receiving normal to excess rains. Record breaking showers were also hit during the last month.

Last year, only 13 meteorological sub divisions had received excess to normal rainfall till June 11.

Unique record of first Mother-daughter to climb Mt Everest!

An exceptional record of reaching the top of the world’s tallest mountain Mount Everest by the first mother daughter team has been recorded on Saturday. The two Sydney women, Cheryl Bart and her 23-year-old daughter Nikki climb to the top of the mountain at 9.05 am Australian time on Saturday after setting out on April 1, as reported by news.com.au.

Their endeavor has created history as the first mother-daughter team to climb the peak of the tallest mountain. They were now the first mother and daughter team to have climbed the tallest peak in each of the seven continents.

Cheryl Bart and her daughter Nikki endured bitingly cold temperatures and several delays to reach the 8850-metre peak. Troubles came because of the ascent of the Beijing Olympic torch earlier this month amidst tight security but the pair didn’t lose their spirits and finally succeeded to reach crossing all the hurdles. Although they had their communications gear temporarily lost because of that event but soon they got it.

Reaching the top not only gives them an Everest record, but also gives them the record of completing what is every climbers’ dream set.

The website quoted Peter Habib, a spokesman for the pair’s sponsor, Telstra, as saying earlier that they were very close to reaching the top and were in high spirits. The pair left Camp Four at about 10 pm Australian time on Friday for the final climb to the summit, and it took them a little over eleven hours to achieve the the landmark feat.

The daughter-mother team has also made records of climbing to the top of Australia’s Mount Kosciuszko (2228m), Antarctica’s Vinson Massif (4897m), South America’s Aconcagua (6962m), Africa’s Kiliminjaro (5895m), North America’s McKinley-Denali (6195m) and Europe’s Elbrus (5642m).
