Nitish Katara murder case: Vikas Yadav found guilty!

The six years old sensational murder case of Nitish Katara is finally solved. The Patiala House Court in Delhi on Wednesday found prime accused Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav guilty of the murder and criminal conspiracy along with destruction of evidence. The quantum of punishment would be announced on May 30. Both can be sentenced to death or life term.

Satisfied by the law, Neelam Katara, mother of Nitish, said, “It’s a big relief. It’s a milestone judgment. I thank God.”

Vikas, son of Uttar Pradesh politician DP Yadav, has appealed that the pronouncement of verdict be stayed as the Delhi High Court is likely to hear his application seeking stay on trial court proceedings today. But his plea was rejected by the court and pronounced its verdict.

The court straight away declared, “I hold Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav guilty under section 302, 364, 201 and 34 of the IPC.”

Nitish Katara, son of an IAS officer, was allegedly killed by accused Vikas and his cousin Vishal Yadav on the intervening night of February 16-17, 2002. They had kidnapped Nitish from a marriage function in Ghaziabad.

According to the prosecution, the accused had killed the victim as they did not approve of his alleged relations with their sister Bharati Yadav.

Neelam Katara thanked the court and media for the judgment. She fought a long battle to get the justice.
