The reasons for differences in behavioral characteristics and traits of men and women have always been a little enigmatic for all of us.  Several theories have been proposed as to why men retreat to the “cave” and why a “wave” is a natural cycle for women. There have been many insightful books like “Men are from mars and Women are from Venus” that chalk out these differences of the two sexes. Let’s try and analyze one such difference between men and women today through this forum. Are females blessed with better judgment abilities than men?

Let’s reverse time to the prehistoric ages when men went out to hunt animals, often for days or weeks away from their families: sometimes in groups and sometimes alone, while the females took care of the household chores and the children, together with the other females and were never alone. Men used their intelligence to set up traps and to chase the animals in a clever way. Their judgments helped them to overcome the power of their prey in hunting. Their intelligence helped them be better judges of the unpredictable environments in which they used to hunt. If they went out alone, there would be no interaction with other humans where they could learn the art of recognizing facial expressions, emotions, feelings in other people, and detect cheating, lying, deceiving and dishonesty. Even if they went with a group, their sole purpose of interaction would be to chalk out strategies of hunting rather than socializing. On the other hand, women became better judges of human emotions because they had to constantly monitor these emotions in their children (females had to be good in recognizing the emotions of their children to find out when they were sick, hungry, thirsty etc). Not only this, since womenfolk stayed together in the absence of men folk, they had to develop socializing and networking skills. This would bring them in close contact with individuals of different characteristics, making them better judges of human emotions.

The crux of this discussion is that where men are better at planning and making strategies, women have been given the gift of an understanding heart to comprehend emotions.

One more step towards Mars!

Phoenix spacecraft of NASANASA spacecraft, Phoenix, has successfully landed on the polar region of Mars. It is the first successful landing of the NASA spacecraft. Images sent by the spacecraft after two hours of successful landing confirmed the reports.

The spacecraft starting from the Earth, has reached to the Red Planet after 422- million miles after three-month mission. At 4.53.44 Pacific Time, radio signals received from Mars to Earth with the speed of light confirmed that Mars Lander has succeeded its final, though very difficult descent and touchdown.

“Seeing these images after a successful landing reaffirmed the exhaustive work over the past five years by a great team,” says Phoenix project manager Barry Goldstein of JPL.

On May 27, it starts using its crucila 7.7-foot-long robotic arm for further research. It will use instruments to taste and sniff the northern polar site’s soil and ice.

The news brought excitement amongst the mission team led by Smith at the University of Arizona with project management at JPL and development partnership at Lockheed Martin.

International contributions come from the Canadian Space Agency; the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland; the universities of Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark; Max Planck Institute, Germany; and the Finnish Meteorological Institute respectively.

Peter Smith of the University of Arizona, Tucson, the principal investigator for the Phoenix mission said, “We see the lack of rocks that we expected, we see the polygons that we saw from space, we don’t see ice on the surface, but we think we will see it beneath the surface. It looks great to me.”

The new research by NASA spacecraft can now open many threads of any possibility of life on Mars. It will definitely give crucial information of the planet.

First picture of snowstorms on Mars obtained!

First view of the active snowstorms on Red planet (Mars) is sent on Earth by Robotic space craft ‘Mars Ricknesha’ which is revolving around the planet. The picture was taken last month and is of North Pole of the planet. It shows soil whirlwinds and at least 4 icy tornado’s on the planet.

Scientists are trying to find favourable conditions for life on Mars for many years. Their research shows that this is the only planet which can have the possibility of having necessary conditions for living after Earth.

These pictures of Mars are very precious for the scientists. It shows no change in Ice Mountains on the planets after many lakh years. According to laboratory scientist Jet Propultion, they came to know about these ice storms while they were studying about the changes in concentration of carbon dioxide gas during autumn. However it is not known exactly about the numbers of the storms and their particular occurrence during autumn or they are always there.
