Five Tips which will Help You to Tackle Stress!

I think writing on this theme would be the most appropriate as these days people have all the reasons to be stressed about- recession, pay cuts, job lay off, less income and what not! One is bound to get stressed in such situations. It is very important to tackle stress as it could prove very dangerous for your health. Here are a few ways in which you can handle stress.

Identify the causes of stress and avoid them: the best way to tackle stress is to identify what is causing stress. Be it meeting the deadlines at office or buying the diamond necklace for your sweetheart, anything can cause stress. So try to keep such situations at bay, like devote extra time to your work or first arrange for all the funds and only then promise a gift to your beloved.

Exercise and yoga: exercising your body relieves stress and produces ‘feel good’ hormones within your body. Also doing yoga helps to keep your body and mind balanced and reduce stress by giving peace to your body and mind. So either go for long walks, jogging, and swimming or join a yoga center to relieve stress.

Pursue your hobbies: when under stress, try to do such things which give you pleasure and happiness like pursuing your hobbies. Paint, dance, read, sing, cook, do whatever pleases you. Also, you can go out and catch up with your friends if you are under stress, it will help you become normal.

Meditate: meditation is another relaxing way to keep stress at bay. Meditation makes the brain more focused and gives positive energy to the mind. A person who meditates regularly is in a better position to tackle stress and handle stressful situations with ease.

Seek medical help: if despite trying all the options your stress refuses to go away then seek medical help. There are many drugs available in the market but it’s always better to avoid self medication and seek a doctor’s opinion.

Nowadays people are so busy glued to their computer screens and play stations that outdoor games have almost become outdated games! But it is a universal truth that outdoor games are any day better than other games, be it for physical health or mental health. Following are 5 great benefits which you can derive from indulging in outdoor games.

  1. Improves overall health: playing outdoor games improves overall health of a person. Outdoor games are also a form of exercise but more fun filled. They will help you stay in shape and maintain your fitness levels. You can simply just grab a racket and ball and get going, that’s all it takes.
  2. Helps in getting adequate sleep: When you play outdoor games, you get into rigorous physical exercise. So it automatically exhausts your body and when your body gets exhausted, you are bound to get enough sleep. It is our body’s mechanism to sleep when we are physically exhausted. So if you are sleep deprived, outdoor games are your solution.
  3. Boosts concentration: when you play outdoor games, obviously you are well concentrated on your target. Be it hitting the football or snapping in the basket ball, the player is concentrated on his target, the goal and the basket. Also you learn to coordinate with other team members when you play in a team. So by playing outdoor games, you get to enhance your concentration and coordination skills at the same time.
  4. Innovative way to socialize: playing outdoor games could turn out to be an innovative way to socialize with your buddies. Especially for people who have a busy life and don’t have time to catch up with friends, playing outdoor games with friends can be a nice way to have a good time with them and that too in a healthy way!
  5. A nice break from boring exercise routine: certain people who are health conscious never like to miss out on their exercise regime. But one can often get bored following the same exercise routine every day. So if you need a break from your daily work outs but still don’t want to miss out on health then you can play outdoor games instead of exercise. They are more fun and burn equal calories as your exercise regime would.

5 things which can help you to lose weight!

If you’re new here, and interested in the latest news and insights on news from India and world, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting I News India.

If you seriously want to lose a bit of extra weight then please follow these 5 things which can help you to lose weight:

1> Take proper sleep daily:

Getting proper and timely sleep is too much crucial, if you are seriously trying to loose your extra weight. You can fix a time for going to bed. Try every night to go to the bed at the same time and at least take a sound sleep of seven hours. This will not only give you physical relief but mental as well. If you will remain in stress through out the 24 hours of the day then you won’t be able to lose weight.

2> Chew the food for sufficient time:

I know many people will consider it as a joke. They can ask me about the relationship between losing weight and chewing the food. The scientific reason behind this line is that if you don’t chew the food for the proper time then enzymes in saliva will not get the time to start the digestion process, which can affect your digestive system. Thus to lose weight try to chew the food at least 100 times before swallowing.

3> Drink enough water:

If you are doing the exercise daily to lose extra calories then only doing the exercise will not help you to lose those extra calorie. Drinking enough water will help you to lose calories. One of the benefits of drinking water is that it will break the fats and protein of your body and will also act as a stimulant to guide your brain that you are not hungry. Water also suppresses the appetite and help fluid retention too.

4> Laughter can help you to lose a bit of calorie:

Yes it is true. Laughter can help you to help the functioning of your brain along with it will give you energy. I have always seen that if I am too much stressed then I prefer to watch one comedy movie and that always boost the energy behind me. Laughter can ease the blood pressure too. So next time if you meet some one give him a nice smile it will help you to enjoy yourself and to lose a bit of extra weight too.

5> Love can help you to lose weight:

The fifth but the most important factor which can help you to lose extra weight is Love. The feeling of love is the most important medicine dose which can lose the extra calorie inside you. It is in fact my personal feeling too that you need the motivation to lose the extra weight. That motivation can be achieved from your love.

In this fast moving world we need to manage everything within the short time, so we also need to manage our body fitness with our daily routine. A life full of tension is not going to help us in any way to lose weight so be relaxed and take the weight loss process easily.

But there are so many people telling us different things about health and all of them clash. So people end up getting confused and ultimately don’t know what to believe. So here are a few health myths and truth about them for you:

Myth: Vasectomy is a painful procedure and affects a person’s sex life adversely.
Truth: According to the Marie Stopes charity, vasectomy takes only a few minutes to be done and is relatively simple and painless procedure.

Myth: Acne happens because the area is not washed properly.
Truth: Acne happens because of hormonal imbalance or stress. That is why teenagers are most affected by it. In fact, washing the area again and again can cause more acne as the body replenishes the oil washed away.

Myth: Depressed people just need to relax and chill, they’ll be fine.
Truth: Depression is an illness caused due to imbalance in brain chemicals. It is an illness and people can’t get out of it just by relaxing and feeling nice. Proper medication and counseling is required.

Obesity is a major problem!

Technically speaking, obesity is a condition in which excess body fat accumulates to such an extent that health may be negatively affected. It is commonly defined as a body mass index (BMI = weight divided by height squared) of 30 kg/m2 or higher. This distinguishes it from being overweight as defined by a BMI of between 25-29.9 kg/m2.

Not so long ago, it was commonly believed that overweight and obese people were compulsive eaters, anxious, depressed, under stress, or trying to compensate for deficiencies in their lives. But today, when almost everyone seems to be getting heavier and obesity has become an international issue.

Some research suggests that depressed people are more likely to develop obesity. People may console themselves with “comfort food”, which is usually high in fat, sugar, and calories because they are anxious, lonely, angry, or suffering from low self-esteem. There is a characteristic type of depression with symptoms that include lethargy and overeating. Like most mind-body interactions, obesity can lead to ill health, which is linked to depression and anxiety.

Besides this the dietary habits contribute a lot towards obesity. I was in USA for a long time and obesity is increasing at an alarming pace there, especially amongst the younger generation. Majority of the youngsters thrive on cheeses and pizzas there. The ton of white flour and cheese ends up accumulating around the waist, leading to obesity. The second closest contender of food for them is fried food (French fries, fried chicken, fish, beef etc). These food items surely work wonders for the taste buds but certainly not for the body.

Another reason of obesity nowadays is the kind of jobs people are in. With more and more of desk work (where people have to keep sitting for long spans of time) and very less physical activity, people are becoming victims of obesity. The extreme competition in the corporate world has intensified this problem. Consultants, allured into the sexy world of money and fame, hardly have time to think about their health. Their schedules are jam packed with travel, meetings and deadlines to deliver their projects. The sleep deprived executives are left with little time to manage a healthy routine.

Technology cannot be excused either. With more and more advancements being made to make life more comfortable, we have overlooked the slow disaster it is leading us to. Everything can be done at the click of a button nowadays. This leaves very little space for physical activity for mankind.

The best methods of reducing excess weight are controlling diet and a moderate exercise program. Small drops in weight can create lower health risks for a person. Other methods of weight loss include drug therapy and surgery. But both of these come with risk of complications and mortality risks as well.

Are you afraid of ghosts?

Are you afraid of ghosts? Does the thought of witches haunt you at night? If the answer is yes, have you ever questioned yourself about why such thoughts disturb you? The answer is simple. It’s the fear of the unknown which bothers us so much that we start panicking even at the thought of it. Nobody has ever seen ghosts (at least no one has given an unequivocal first hand report till now), they have just originated out of the numerous stories we all have heard since childhood. And since it is something we haven’t seen, it’s easier to get scared by them.

And it’s not only ghosts people are afraid of. It can be anything which is unknown. Human psyche is such that we need to be sure of the thing, the person, the place, the situation we are going to face. When we are educated about the object in front of us we feel confident in tackling it. There are very few people in this world who would dare to jump into the world of unknown and not get jitters.

I was going to get married to a stranger who was working in USA. I had to make up my mind to agree to this commitment knowing that I would have to live there with just my husband, sans family or friends. I was scared. I had a lot of apprehensions. USA was not my land. There was no family there. There weren’t any friends either. I was born and brought up in India and was so comfortable here because I could relate to it in numerous ways. The thought of living in an alien land sent shivers down my spine. Then, very calmly and understandingly my would-be-husband talked me out of my fears. He made me realize that it just the unknown I was being scared of. Once I got acquainted with the place and the people, I would get as comfortable there as I was in my motherland. He had also gone to USA for studies and didn’t know anyone there. The decision then was entirely up to him. Did he want to subjugate his desire of studying in one of the best universities of the world and stay back in India or did he want to fight against his fear of the unknown, plunge into the new world and wade his way through whatever life had to offer. He assured me that he made a decision he was proud of and that I should also think wisely before regretting the choice I made. Though my mind was still juggling between yes or no, my heart told me to accept the offer. And today, I am thankful to my husband to have helped me look beyond the clouds of doubt. Today, I feel very fortunate to have had the best of both worlds.

Each one of us faces such situations in life where we have to take decisions without knowing what to expect in return.  We can either choose to be the frog of the well or leap outside the well into the ocean of opportunities that might be lost due to this fear of the indefinite, the unidentified. The ultimate decision is yours. Before rebuffing something just ask yourself if the plunge for the unknown would be worth your effort and then just go for it at the slightest affirmative inclination of your mind and heart.

Is weight loss really that difficult?

Well this is one question which is haunting most of the overweight people in the world. And if this question is haunting you also then read on. Being obese is one thing which is major cause of stress in youngsters, and nowadays in adults too. In today’s time, being presentable is as important as being hardworking or intelligent. And to be presentable you have to be shape. They way you look affects every sphere of one’s life, be it career, social life or personal relationships. But being in shape is headache for most people because it is not that easy for everyone.

Don’t lose hope: Do you feel that it is only you who is not losing weight despite working hard, while your friends are slimming down like never before? Well, think again. You may not be practicing the appropriate weight loss techniques according to your body type. One common problem with most people is that when they attempt to lose weight, they expect the results overnight. This in any case is not possible. Weight loss is a gradual process and one has to workout continuously and then wait for the results to show. Very often people get frustrated when they don’t see the results and stop attempting to lose weight. You have to understand that weight loss does happen but it takes some time. Also it could be that you may be taking the wrong diet. Weight loss is possible with an optimal combination on exercise and diet. So both are important. You can exercise for hours and hours but until you take a healthy diet according to your own body type, it won’t work.

Will power is the key: if you have the determination, will power and patience then losing weight is not tough at all. You have to set your priorities right and focus on them. For example if you are craving to eat a dish then don’t punish yourself by not eating it, instead have a small portion of that dish and try to feel satisfied. Try to incorporate little changes in your lifestyle, like taking the stairs instead of elevator, taking olive oil instead of other oils and playing games in your free time like squash, badminton or cricket. Such changes will help you a lot.

What to do: first of all stop taking stress because of your flab. It’ll go with time. You have to understand that it can’t happen overnight. Don’t stop you exercise and diet if you don’t see the results soon. It will help you sooner or later. Also if you see the results quickly on your body even then you should not stop your exercise and diet because by doing so you will gain double the weight. So the key is to continue the diet and exercise for a longer period of time.

It is not a new concept to any of us that dieting and exercising are the two possible healthy and inexpensive ways by which we can reduce weight. You can make small changes in your diet which can help you a lot like taking more fiber and proteins. Also eating more fruits and salads help a lot. You can do some exercises at home only like squats, abs crunches or pushups. If these bore you then there are fun alternatives like swimming, physical games and jogging. Even doing domestic work like wiping the floor also helps. So don’t lose heart, get up and get going because losing weight is not difficult at all.

Do you carry your laptop on your holiday?

Do you take your laptop when you go for a holiday with your family? If yes, avoid this habit in your future as it is warned by psychologists that these new age wireless tools are spoiling holidays and can be a reason to ruin family relationships.

“People simply should not take laptops on holiday with them. They are taking their office with them and they just shouldn’t do it,” said Cary Cooper, professor at Lancaster University management school’s department of psychology and health.

Wireless tools are the demand of today’s tech world but the same thing should be used intelligently. These tools are becoming inseparable part of life and a large mass of people take their laptops and wireless internet connections on holidays with them. The psychologist considers the laptops as a hindrance in the holiday. People find it difficult to switch off their laptops and spend most of their hard-found leisure time in working on laptops; news daily quoted a psychologist as saying.

“The rise in mobile phone and Internet technology has already affected our weekends and now it is invading annual holidays. Sensible bosses and workers should insist that holidays are computer free,” he suggested.

Cooper warned the problem as “mushroomed with the spread of wireless hot spots”.

People used to monitor their e-mails during vacations and instead of spending time with family they feel insecure about their jobs and keep stick to their systems for a long time during free hours. All this is possible because of existence of wireless tools. Hence the later can be considered as a hindrance in a relaxing vacation of a family.

“People worry about a backlog and that things will be missed while they are away. They feel a need to be constantly online and checking their emails. This insecurity is endemic to the service-based industries,” said Cooper.

Survey reports also agree with us. According to a survey by IT security company Credant Technologies, almost two-thirds of brokers in London said they were contacting their offices through phone or emails while on vacation. A whopping 83 % admitted to taking their office mobile phone or Blackberry with them while they are away. The survey said that more than a quarter said they check emails daily and 14 % admitted to doing so more than once a day.

“I can understand why people take mobile phones, but they should only be used sparingly, as a ’security blanket’. They should be kept switched off most of the time,” he stated.

According to him, taking work on holidays could deprive people of “much needed rest and recuperation” from demanding jobs and it could also lead to family break-ups.

He also said those who show that they can work for their organization even on holidays are actually cheating themselves. It may lead to exploitation as they are showing that they are available for the organization 24*7.

People should understand the needs of their family and should remember that a vacation is not just a resting time but to attach more closely with the family and your kids. Work should be done honestly but do not make it over to avoid your family.
