Is it the end of the Punter Career?

Cricket Australia selectors has rested Ricky Ponting in the coming two One Day International matches against New Zealand. This is one sort of punishment given to the skipper for the losses which Australia faced during last few months.

Although no one is claiming it as a punishment, but the history of Cricket Australia is confirming the same. People are considering this rest as the end of the career of the Punter. Punter is the nick name of the Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.

Aussies are facing the tough time from last year; India and South Africa are giving them the toughest fight in ODI as well as in Tests too. India is already the world champions of T20, while South Africa has recently claimed the world number one spot in ODI from Aussies by defeating them 4-1 in a five match series in Australia.

Thus Australian team has lost around 5 matches in a row, in ODI, and they too lost the test series to South Africa in there own soul. Before that too they lost the test series against India in India too. The test series loss in India caused the blame to the skipper Ponting.

Yesterday Cricket Australia selector’s panel provided a break to Ricky Ponting for the coming two One Day Internationals against New Zealand. Though CA confirmed it as a rest to the skipper, but even Ponting has said it as painful. He said that it is really painful to leave the team at this stage. Team is trailing by 1-0 in the five match series against New Zealand.

So, can we assume that this rest is the end of the Punter Career? As far as the history of Cricket Australia is concerned it can be. Also they are now looking towards the future and it is supposed that Cricket Australia selectors are more keen to provide Clarke as the opportunity to replace Ponting. On the other hand, Ponting was batting well but his plans were not looking too sharp as the skipper and thus he was blamed for the losses. Now everybody is thinking that it is the end of the Ponting’s career, but we also know that he is a true fighter and we hope that he can come back with a strong knock. We would be looking for the comments of the visitors on this issue.
