First DLF IPL: Rajasthan Royals got the crown!

Rajasthan Royals won the first IPL finals on Sunday at Dr. DY Patil stadium in Mumbai. The royals leaded by Shane Warne won against M S Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings by three wickets against the target of 164 set by CSK. Rajasthan were awarded a cheque of Rs. 4.8 crores.

The last over of the match was the deciding over and was really nail biting as the victory was undecided till the last delivery. Finally the trophy was over taken by the Rajasthan Royals. Yusuf Pathan from winning side with his 56 runs off 39 balls and taking three wickets emerged as the hero of the day. He is awarded the DLF maximum sixes as well as the man of the match award.

Lots of turning points in the match kept the viewers stick to their chairs. Graeme Smith, who is out with a hamstring injury, was replaced by Kamran Akmal in Rajasthan Royal team. After winning the toss, Shane Warne invited the Chennai Super Kings to bat. Stephen Fleming and Parthiv Patel gave an impressive steady start. Raina added the highest individual runs of 43 runs to the team. Dhoni remained not out with 29 runs adding to the total of 163.

Royals got his first stroke as the loss of Niraj Patel at the start of the game who made only 2 runs. Later the play swung up and the score rises. The catches dropped of Yusuf Pathan at 13 and 33 cost Chennai Super Kings a lot. The fielding aspect of Chennai Super Kings was at lowest yesterday.

Pathan hit massive sixes making the target easy for the team to hold the IPL trophy with highest individual score of 56 in the final.

Shane Warne-Sohail Tanwir partnership for the 8th wicket was also very crucial for the team.

Sohail Tanvir — the wrong-footed pacer from Pakistan, for his 22 wickets, won the purple cap while the orange cap for the highest scorer went to Shaun Marsh of Kings XI Punjab.

Australia’s Shane Watson, who played a key role in Rajasthan Royal’s title triumph, was declared as the man of the tournament with 474 runs, including four half centuries, and 17 wickets.

In spite of lots of controversies, first IPL mixed with glamour and entertainment was a grand success.

Chennai Super Kings won again by 6 runs, Mumbai’s second loss!

Mumbai Indians, in the absence of injured master blaster Sachin Tendulakar, have to face defeat once again. Struggling to chase the target of 209 set by Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians could able to reach 200 only and lost the game by 6 runs in MA Chidamabaram stadium in Chennai.

Mathew Hayden’s brilliant inning of 81 runs helped Chennai Super Kings to score a mammoth 208/5 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians. Australian opener Mathew’s powerful batting included 11 magnificent fours and 2 huge sixes in 46 balls. The inning was the best score of Hyden in 20-20. Captain Dhoni also gave wonderful shots in last overs and made 30 runs of 16 balls.

Elected to bat first, Chennai Super Kings lost two quick wickets in the form of Parthiv Patel (14) and Mike Hussey (5). But soon after the loss, Hayden and Suresh Raina helped the team to build a solid ground of 82/2 within 10 overs and afetr 14 overs it became 137/2.

Suresh Raina completed his half century scoring 53 runs of 37 balls and shot 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Mumbai Indians have a very slow start losing both the openers Luke Ronchi and Sanath Jayasuriya early in the innings. Robin Uthappa stabilised the team a little making 43 out of 36 before bowled out by Joginder Sharma. Uthappa’s only sixer was 100th six of the tournament.

Later Shaun Pollock and Dwayne Bravo joined the battle to reach a score of 86/3 after 10 overs. But soon they were dismissed after they wrapped up at 17 and 24 runs respectively.

Harbhajan singh gave a fast score of 28 runs out of 14 balls including 6 great sixes and a four while A Nayar gave a superb knock of 45 runs out of 20 balls and 6 fours and 1 six. These fast innings gave a hope to Mumbai Indians to cross the target but they lost the game by a narrow difference of 6 runs.

It is the second consecutive loss for Mumbai Indians; the first was against the Bangalore Royal Challangers. On the other hand Chennai Super Kings are now on cloud nine after this second victory. Earlier they have defeated Kings XI Punjab in their home ground.
