Shilpa

The global Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty have been awarded Britain’s Global Diversity award for 2008 for their contribution to the diversity agenda on Tuesday night at an event to be attended by British Foreign Minister David Miliband MP and Culture Minister Andy Burnham among others. Lewis Hamilton will also be honored by the award in the event which is hosted by the Next Steps Foundation.

Shilpa Shetty after being subjected to allege bullying and racism in the television reality show “Celebrity Big Brother” became famous in Britain last year and her treatment by some other participants in the popular show became the subject of a heated row in India. Shetty became world famous after she was universally praised by British commentators for showing restraint.

Vaz, who has been made British ambassador for the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, said both Shetty and Hamilton “faced adversity in their careers but have dealt with it with grace and dignity”.

Hamilton was also subjected to racial abuse. On Feb 4 this year, he was racially abused by spectators during pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) warned the Spanish authorities about such behavior and announced it would launch a ‘Race Against Racism’ campaign.

The hosting organization, Next Step Foundation was established 10 years ago by MPs Bernie Grant and Keith Vaz to encourage diversity in both the public and private sectors.

New variety of web addresses on web!

An array of new exciting web addresses for the web will be used soon giving a new look to the internet. The common domain names - .com and .edu will be the old stuff as the new flavor of a variety of web addresses like .love, .sky, .sports etc is waiting for you.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann) approved measures that will allow top-level domain names to be written in scripts such as Arabic or Cyrillic.

After that any company, organization or country will soon be able to apply for a new Web address extension, called a top-level domain. Icann adopted the new rules after a meeting in Paris.

Top-level domain names (TLD) , refer to Internet name suffixes like .com, .net and .org, among others. Currently, there are more than 200 TLDs, which also include the two-character country codes used by Web sites, such as Britain’s .uk.

“This is a historic resolution,” said Peter Dengate Thrush, chairman of Icann’s board. “It’s going to make a big difference to how the Internet looks and works.”

On Thursday, Internet regulators voted to relax rules on domain names like .com or .edu, which could pave the way for companies or individuals to create new flavored addresses for the Web.

Icann officials said some technical issues for the new system must still be worked out, but it could be reviewing the first applications for new TLDs as early as next spring. Icann officials estimated that prices would start in the low six figures, so the organization can recoup its expenses for developing the new service.

Under the new system, individuals, companies or groups could apply to have any string of letters established as a domain name. It could be a vanity name, for example — .smith — or a category name like .sports or .perfume. A company could also change its domain to reflect its brand, so Apple.com could become Apple.mac, for instance.

It could also sow confusion in the minds of Web users, create a host of new ways to exploit the Web addressing system and start a wave of legal skirmishes over applications to register trademarks — .coke, for example.

The Icann board said it would seek public comment on the guidelines before its next major meeting in November.

Indians most employed group in Britain!

Indian national people in Britain have the highest number of people employed among all social groups, a latest official publication said.

“The proportion of working-age people living in work less households in the UK was highest for the Chinese ethnic group, at 25%, and lowest for the Indian ethnic group, at 10%, while 11% of people in the white ethnic group lived in a work less household,” the 2008 edition of `Social Trends`, a publication released by the Office for National Statistics said on Tuesday.

The publication says that Indians constitute the largest group in Britain among the ethnic minorities. Asians constitute about 5% of total population while black constitutes 3% of the population. There are around 12,15,000 Indians in Britain.

`Social Trends` provides an up-to-date and comprehensive description of society in 2007. The study revealed that UK has become more ethnically diverse in the past few years as its population has grown from 56 million in 1986 to 60 million in 2006. But 90% of the population is still white, compared to 93% in 2001.

The publication reveals that UK residents made a record 45.3 million holiday trips abroad in 2006. Nearly 3% of these trips were to Asia, where common destinations were India and Thailand.

It also points that the number of people aged 65 and above in the UK is expected to exceed the number aged fewer than 16 in 2021.

The proportion of people living alone is also on rise.

Future of lakhs of Indians in danger in Britain!

There are some modifications in Britain’s Immigration rules creating problems to the Indians living in Britain. Future of lakhs of Indians living in Britain would be dark if new changes applied.

Hearing for the important appeal against these modifications in the rules is going to take place today in the biggest court of England. If the decision will be in favor of the government then a large population of Indian doctors, degree holders and technical professional who came there after 2002 will be sent back to India with their families.

Presently danger clouds are surrounding these Indians similar to the time when lakhs of Asians are sent back to their homes by ruler Idi Amin in 1967-68.

It can happen in Britain also which no one has thought of.

Till today, most of the business, many services, hospitals, transport, schools, factories etc are run by the workers and specialists from India. There were restrictions but it was going smooth overall. There was not much strictness because the country needs the labor force from outside for its working. The need was not fulfilled by their citizens’ alone as Britain people do not agree on their strict rules of working and they got many facilities on the name of Social security. Hence no one is interested in hard work.

Need is fulfilled by our people and they got praise there for the same. Indian is respected more than other countries in Britain because of being hard working and faithful. They don’t want to live on the basis of social security. But still it is not understandable what happened today to change the rules. Needs are also same today then why so many alterations?
