Amitabh embarrassed of being an icon!
Amitabh Bachchan found to be embarrassed being listed in the top 20 Indian iconic people. Film critic and columnist, Anil Dharkar’s latest book titled ‘Icons: Men & Women who shaped Today’s India,’ included the superstar as a legend of Hindi cinema.
The book unfolds the charisma, exceptional destinies, talents and achievements of 20 men and women who continue to shape today’s India in their respective fields.
Other names in Dharkar’s book includes former president, APJ Abdul Kalam; economist and winner of 1998 Nobel Prize, Amartya Sen; master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar; famous painter, MF Hussain; Charles Correa and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, etc.
Big B’s name in the list directly proves him to be a legend in the Indian cinema but the star is not comfortable with this achievement.
Dharkar added that Bachchan had set up a milestone in Indian cinema and he was actively working towards the social responsibility as a good human being.
The book was launched on March 12 at the hotel InterContinental The Grand in Delhi where Amitabh said that he was not comfortable to be listed in the book and feel embarrassed.
Amitabh said, “I find it embarrassing to be one of the 20 icons. I shouldn’t be there.”
Bachchan highlighted some relevant points about democracy, the state of affairs in the country and the media’s role in modern India. “Our journalists are our gatekeepers, interpreters and messengers in a democratic, secular society. Our faith in them must be complete,” he asserted.
On the other hand Dharkar dismissed the remarks saying “Amitabh Bachchan is just being modest. Humbleness is a vital part of your life, which comes from knowing that you have achieved a lot but there is so much more to pull off. And the icons are absolutely aware of that.”
Dharkar said “The book will give you a sense of our country and where it is headed.”
