Bandhu Das, 100-year-old man from Orrisa put an example for those youngsters of today’s generation who are lazy and behind the money only. The old but passionate Bandhu Das refused to take old age pension from the government saying that he is active enough to work.

Although the resident of Salijanga village in Jagatsinghpur district is poor but he denied any help from government and said he is strong enough to earn his bread and butter.

“The government should help the disabled, those in distress and the weaker sections of the society but not able persons,” says Das.

Though Bandhu Das claims that he is older than 100-year-old but official records says that he is 100. Still the activeness and firmness at this stage of life is really appreciable.

As told by the villagers he gets up at 5 each morning. After a breakfast of milk and muri (puffed rice), Das goes to the fields located over two km from the village to cut grass, feed cows and pluck betel leaves. He feeds his cattle himself. He also often involves himself in farming, said the villagers.

He is full of life and the old man used to recites folk songs and often participates in village programs also.

When the every second kid of today have to wear spectacles because of weak eyesight, Das’s eyesight is perfect at 100. “I have never used spectacles,” he said.

Das has two sons and two daughters, all married. His wife Labani is 90. She is bedridden with paralysis. He is more active and healthy than the youngsters. his daughter-in-law Lata told, “He has not suffered from any major disease and lives a healthy life.”

Das says that he is healthy and give the credit of his fitness to milk and other food products he eat.

“I am fit because I used to drink milk, and eat other milk products including ghee,” says Das.

Social activist Santosh Sahoo of neighbouring Balansa village said Das is an inspiration to people of the region. He is energetic, cheerful, enthusiastic and determined. Definitely he has put a live example for the people all over the country. This is the spirit which is a need for today’s generation. I News India salute his spirit and courage.

Thanks for visiting I News India.

Life is the gift of god. It’s our own wish how to live it. Everyone have some dreams in their eyes in their life. But it’s not instant that the dreams come true. It needs motivation all along the path to live a happy life. How to maintain the motivation to keep flowing in life?

Life takes many unfamiliar and sudden zigzag turns which can make some delays in achieving the goals. These turns adds flavor to life. A straight and easy way is always a boring to travel. But many times, people get demoralized with the sudden situations or tragic turn of life. They forget about their dreams and keep flowing on the way where their life takes them. When our dreams are about to be realized we quit and start blaming others. This is not the right way to live. Just improve the outlook of your life and cherish your dreams. Some ways that can help you are as follows:

Give moral to the others: If you want to help yourself, help others. Talk to people and help them out of their problems. Motivate them for their life and encourage them to achieve their goals. Your simple words can change their mind and can build a positive attitude towards life which is always the first need to face any situation. Feel good feeling will come automatically to you when you will find that others are motivated by your words and getting success. By motivating others you are motivating yourself and putting yourself as an example to them. With time, you will feel a change in your personality and going towards betterment.

Get ready to win: Realize your abilities and capabilities. Set your targets and get ready to achieve them. Do not think that you cannot do or do not make any excuse of hurdles coming on the path. Just get up and go ahead for your aims. Try hard.

Don’t get demoralized by any situation/ no negative thought: Avoid negative thinking. Whenever it comes, discard them from your mind. Take every situation positively and filter out only good essence of any bad happenings. This will keep your hopes alive and you will remain energetic for your goals in life.

Pour all your efforts/struggle to achieve your dream: Set your goals and pour all your efforts into it. Do not ignore them if you cherish any dream. Plan everything, make schedule, routines and decide the jobs and go ahead with your efforts. Success is waiting for you.

Do not afraid of failure: Dreams come true but not all. Might be you face some failures in a few cases but do get afraid of them. It’s the law of nature. Not always you can win and the taste of victory is sweeter after a failure. Keep trying but in right direction and learn from your failure attempts.

Life is really beautiful. Do not just spend it but live it’s every moment. The need is just to shape your vision in life!

Beware of any email invitation to the Beijing Olympics. The malicious mails are supposed to be as an invitation to the Olympics but actually these are E-mail virus which once opened affects MS word, MS PowerPoint and MS excel applications on your system. The virus could allow the remote attackers to take complete control of an affected system, or cause the application to crash.

Experts at Trend Micro’s TrendLabs have confirmed that these mails are malicious. Country Manager – India & SAARC, Trend Micro, Niraj Kaushik said, “When exploited, the unspecified remote code-execution vulnerability could allow remote attackers to take complete control of an affected system, or cause the application to crash.”

“Among others, if you receive any email that has an attachment file named attachment .doc, appeal_letter_of_fttj.doc, attend_the_opening_ceremony_of_the_29th_olympic_games_in_beijing.doc, five_resolutions.doc, or lingotto_con_fiat.doc, be warned that opening it may make your computer vulnerable to attack,” added Kaushik.

Experts said that the malicious .doc files are spreading in the wild which are taking benefit of the ongoing Beijing Olympics in China, the popular event of the time. This makes the receiver to click on the mail and open the files. The samples that TrendLabs has come across are detected as TROJ_MDROPPER.ZT.

Kaushik added, “The Olympics event having such a big fan-following, the potential of people unknowingly getting lured into opening such Trojanized files is huge. With 10, 708 athletes competing in 28 sports for 302 gold medals, the Olympics is the most prestigious affair of its kind, and as such command a worldwide audience. It is thus expected that it will be included in malicious users’ arsenal of social engineering techniques.”

These files are zero-day exploits under vulnerability summary CVE-2008-2244 under the Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures (CVE) List of the National Cyber Security Division of the US Department of Homeland Security.

Besides TrendLabs has also reported Trojan samples of .XLS and .PPT circulating, all drawing correlation to the ongoing Olympics and the Tibet conflict. Trend Micro detects the malicious Excel file as TROJ_MDROPPER.ZY, and the PowerPoint file as TROJ_PPDROP.M. Unlike the Word file malware, these Excel and PowerPoint files are not confirmed to have zero-day vulnerabilities as yet.

If you are also getting these kinds of mails, do not take as an invitation. It is malicious mails which can damage your system. Avoid opening them and delete them at once.

The victory ensured at least a Bronze for India.

There was no answer to upper cuts and jabs by Vijender and the rival had no clue as to what was going. Vijender is benefited by his height and long reach to unnerve the Thai who looked confused

Building your new dream house?? Must be in need of a reliable and trust worthy builder. How to judge the reliability and credibility of a builder??

Real Estate is the booming industry but a highly unregulated and unorganized market. Every builder boasts about the services and assistance but only few of them are able to prove their words. There is no particular rules to judge but a few things should be taken care to avoid lose and possible hassle in future. Hiring the right builder is crucial to the whole building experience. There are many good and reliable builders but they might take a little work to locate and investigate. Following tips can help you.

-Search for them on the Internet and local newspapers for advertising and information placed by builders. Take advice of your friends and family members.

-Check the builder association in your area and nearby localities. Talk to the people whose homes were built by your preferred builders about any problems with construction and what the builder was like to work with. This can give sufficient information about the reliability of the builder.

-Find out whether possession for past projects of the builder happened in time and weigh the costs against the benefits. Then estimate your budget and cost accordingly.

-Figure out all the features you want like number of bathrooms, whether you want an eat-in kitchen or home office etc. Make sure that the builder has experience doing what you need done.

-Give a look at the features, standard items and options offered by builders and do not forget to compare offers.

-Look for someone who pays attention to your needs. A builder should be a good listener. A healthy builder-client relationship will make all aspects of the job run smoother.

-As a rule, avoid builders who are fairly new or projects that take more than 18 months for completion, and avoid getting into deals where the necessary approvals or papers aren’t easily available.

-You can visit sales centers of builders to look at model homes or suites. Talk to the representatives about your building plan so that you can compare room sizes, features, standards and options and pricing. Make sure that the large furniture will fit into the space of your new home. Talk to the builder about these matter before starting.

-Builder should tell you that the square footage of a house is normally measured from outside walls, so that the useable space is somewhat less. Room dimensions are measured from inside finished walls. This will effect about spacing your furniture and other items in the room. A reliable builder will give you the clear picture of these issues.

-Also you can discuss the financing of your new home with the builder and your mortgage lender and your budget plan. Make certain the price in the final agreement is what you expected and that the information describing the home is correct in every detail.

After you decided about the builder and all other major issues, consult the professionals, like your banker, lawyer, real estate agent, mortgage lender and others to ensure that your decisions are on right track and the builder is credible.

A recent study disclosed that developing countries like India and China are creating a novel but dangerous waste. The e-waste is giving a serious emerging threat to environment. The reports brought out by a leading environment group, Greenpeace India, says that these booming economies are more and more dependent on electronic and electrical equipments which is giving rise to electronic waste.

“Primitive recycling or disposal of e-waste to landfills and incinerators causes’ irreversible environmental damage by polluting water and soil and contaminating air,” states the report titled as “Take Back Blues - An assessment of e-waste take-back in India”.

It is poisoning our soil and water, causing serious health problems. The report showed that in 2007 India generated 380,000 tonnes of e-waste from discarded computers, televisions and mobile phones. This, the report said, was projected to more than double by 2012, to 800,000 per annum with a growth rate of 15 per cent.

Shocked by the findings, Abhishek Pratap, Greenpeace Toxics campaigner and the principal investigator for the study questioned, “It seems like e-waste take-back in India is in no way a priority for global brands. Otherwise, how else can one explain the irresponsible conduct of brands like Sony, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba, Samsung and Philips, which have no take-back service in India whatsoever?”

“Long-term exposure to deadly component chemicals and metals like lead, cadmium, chromium, mercury and polyvinyl chlorides (PVC) can severely damage the nervous systems, kidney and bones, and the reproductive and endocrine systems, and some of them are carcinogenic and neurotoxic,” the report mentions.

Now the question is how to tackle the problem before it becomes seriously out of control. Greenpeace Toxics campaigner Rampati Kumar said that the only way to tackle this novel threat is eco-friendly equipment. He believes that global and domestic brands manufacture should ensure eco-friendly equipment to control the threat.

“The solution lies with the brand owners or manufacturers of electronic products, which need to bear responsibility for financing the treatment of the own-branded e-waste discarded by their customers. If brands follow the ‘cradle to grave’ approach by ensuring take-back and bring back responsibility, it might work,” he says. ”

It was found in the study that half of the global brands have no take-back service in India. Nine out of 20 brands surveyed have no take-back service. The nine brands include Apple, Microsoft, Panasonic, PCS, Philips, Sharp, Sony, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba. Only two brands, HCL and WIPRO, stand out as having the best take-back practice in India and have come out publicly in support of e-waste legislation in India.

“As part of HCL’s eco safe programme, we give booklets along with our products that address waste disposal and inform customers of take back policies, we also host customer seminars telling them about the importance of electronic waste disposal,” George Paul, executive vice-president marketing, HCL Info Systems, said.

“Customers have to incur the cost of giving back the equipment; thus they prefer to sell it to local scrap dealers for a nominal price. Unlike in Europe where once a week the local municipality picks up the electronic waste for a charge levied at the time of purchase of goods, in India the consumer is still at a fairly nascent stage of understanding waste disposal.” He added.

Even as India heads for an e-waste crisis, most of the global electronic brands have no functioning e-waste take-back services in India.

The findings have sounded an alarm of emerging e-waste crisis and if not dealt properly at time, this e-waste will be proved harmful to the economy as well as to the global environment.

Let them do justice. I’m going with the belief that I have done everything for the nation with honesty.”

While addressing to nation Musharraf said, “I’m worried Pakistan is going down abyss rapidly, poor people are being affected.” Quoting recent opinion polls, Musharraf said that 80% of the population wanted him to stay.

“But I’m resigning so that there should be no more uncertainty in Pakistan,” he added.

Musharraf resigned in wake of a humiliating impeachment move, but his tenure was in a state of decline ever since he imposed emergency to pre-empt a judicial ruling on his October 2007 re-election, revoked the measure and quit as army chief under intense international and domestic pressure, entering uncharted waters as a civilian president.

“I may win or lose impeachment, but the people, the nation will definitely lose. I love Pakistan. I’m ready to give my life for the nation. I will never do anything that puts nation in the peril.” He said.

Musharraf recalled the days of his time in power. He talked about the GDP which was at 7% as late as December 2007 and that Pakistan was rated high by international rating agencies. But over the past eight months, the economy has begun a downslide, with foreign exchange reserves, stock exchange, currency rates falling. Prices of all essential commodities have also increased, he added.

Worried and emotional Musharraf said, “When I took over Pakistan’s reign in 1999, the country was in tatters. It was set to be declared a terrorist state. I have worked hard for last eight years and turned challenges into opportunities. I am proud I have kept Pakistan intact.”

During his farewell, Musharraf inspected the guard of honor presented by a tri-services contingent on the forecourt of the Presidency. A military band played martial tunes during the brief ceremony.

Musharraf then shook hands with members of his staff at the Presidency before leaving the imposing building in the heart of Islamabad for the last time. He then drove to his camp office in the nearby garrison city of Rawalpindi.

Finally before leaving, Musharraf said, “I thank the defence forces for their loyalty and also the people of Pakistan for the love they bestowed on me. I’m a common man, part of the middle class. I know their difficulties. I hope the government looks into it.”

He prayed for his nation. He called upon ‘Allah’ to keep his Pakistan safe and solve the problems of its people. He ended his words saying, “Pakistan Khuda Hafiz.”

There are rumors that Musharraf might go in exile. Reports also suggested that a Saudi plane is on a standby at the Rawalpindi airport, fuelling speculation that Musharraf might fly to Saudi Arabia after his address to seek asylum in the Islamic Kingdom.

Fuel prices are touching new heights every day and the only method to save your money is to change your motoring habits. Money saved is money earned. Take care of a few tips to save fuel. Here are listed some of them to help you:

1. Tire pressure: Tire pressure of your car affects the use of gasoline. Tires should be properly inflated. Check the pressure every month and inflate the tires whenever needed. Digital gauge can be used to read the pressure and can be kept in glove compartment. When shopping for new tires, get large diameter tires for rear wheels.

2. Right Oil: Right oil should be used for the car. It should be changed after every 30,000miles. Right oil means car is doing right. Check the grade of oil that is recommended by the manufacturer.

3. Car parking: Parking place should be chosen with care. A shaded area during summer will prevent excess hot inside. Car should be placed in garage when not in use. Avoid too hot or too cold conditions for the vehicle. Also park in way you can later begin to travel in the forward gear. Avoid reverse gear.

4. Spark plug: Engine should be kept in tune. Spark plug should be checked as needed. It will boost your gas mileage by around 4-5 %. The spark plugs should not work below the required efficiency as this may lower your car’s fuel efficiency approximately up to 30 percent.

5. Engine warm-up: Avoid prolonged warming up of engine, even on cold mornings. 30 to 45 seconds is enough. Also disengage the automatic choke after engine warm up. Chokes often get stuck, resulting in bad gas/air mixture.

6. Location evaluation: Evaluate the target location before leaving. Shortest way is not necessarily the quickest. Consider stop signs, stop lights, and traffic density when mapping out your travel route to save gas.

7. Driving habits: Driving habits effects a lot on the gas saved by you. If driving is efficient it could be environment friendly as well as result into saving a good amount of fuel.

Here are nine surprising things which effects our memory:

1> Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates adds negative impact on memory. Extra carbohydrates or only carbs in the diet increases the risk of Alzheimer. Dr Vincent Fortanasce, author of The Anti-Alzheimer’s Prescription suggests cutting back on the carbs to avoid this disease. Excess carbohydrates causes your insulin to spike which results over activation of the insulin-degrading enzyme that exists in the brain. This activity make the enzyme busy in degrading insulin rather than getting rid of beta-amyloid proteins, the toxic protein that produces Alzheimer’s disease. Hence take a proper balanced diet for a good memory.

2> Statins: A recent study revealed that statins helps in preventing dementia. A research out of the University Of Michigan School Of Public Health shows that people at high risk of dementia who took cholesterol-lowering statins were half as likely to develop dementia as those who did not take the prescription medications. It is said that statins help lower the high insulin levels in the brain linked to Alzheimer’s. But it is not known exactly which statins help in this activity hence it is not recommended to take statins by its own without doctor’s prescription.

3> Depression, Anxiety: People who remain in depression and experience more negative emotions are more likely to experience an early memory loss. A study published in the journal Neurology in 2007 shows that those kind of people were 40% more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment than those who were least prone. A transitional stage between normal aging and dementia, mild cognitive impairment is associated with mild memory or cognitive problems.

4> Fish: Fish is a protein rich diet and it is found that people who ate tuna and other fish high in omega-3 fatty acids three times or more per week had a nearly 26% lower risk of having the silent brain lesions that can cause dementia and stroke, compared to those who avoided fish. According to research appearing in the latest issue of journal Neurology studied on more than 2,300 people age 65 and older has found this fact.

5> Thyroid Disorder: According to the May issue of the Mayo Clinic Health Letter states that memory loss and thyroid activity are linked together. Under active thyroid give rise to memory loss. Thyroid hormones control many bodily functions, ranging from heart rate to mood and memory. Older people with this treatable condition may exhibit only one symptom, such as memory loss or decreasing mental function. Hence a low thyroid activity disrupts these functions.

6> Hot Flashes: Women in mid life can have a poor memory according to new research out of the University of Illinois at Chicago which confirms a link between hot flashes and memory among women. A surge in the stress hormone cortisol, which usually accompanies a hot flash, is believed to be the cause. More the hot flashes worse will be the ability to remember names and stories etc.

7> Smoking: Smoking increases risk of memory loss. According to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in June, middle-aged adults who smoke appear to be at an increased risk of having poor memory. The research also shows that long-term ex-smokers were less likely to have cognitive deficits in memory and vocabulary then others.

8> Chronic Pain: Chronic pains also have a negative impact on memory. According to University of Alberta study of 24 patients the pain along with affecting a person’s ability to work, sleep and function on a daily basis also impairs memory. The study says that among people with chronic pain lasting six months or longer showed that two-thirds have significant disruption of attention and memory when tested.

9> Marital Status: Mid-life marital status is related to late-life cognitive function. A Finnish study of more than 1,400 people in mid life and then an average of 21 years later showed that those who were living with a life partner in mid life were significantly less likely to show cognitive impairment compared to those living without their spouse. Singles, separated, divorced or widowed are at more risk of memory loss.
