The Half Story of Dooars XI Football Team!

A few years back I wrote an interesting post on should Cricket be declared the national game of India? It is not a new story out here in India as you can clearly see that all other games like Hockey, Football, Badminton, Tennis, etc. are not at all getting any limelight just because of it. To be very frank, Cricket never is included in Olympics, or Commonwealth Games, etc. and still we Indians are crazy about it.

I am not saying that Cricket as a game is not good, I just want to convey the message that it’s craziness; up to this extent is bad. All the sponsors are there available to finance Cricket, but did anyone thought about our national games? Did some multinational companies which are going crazy to finance any cricketer or any cricket team of IPL (Indian Premiere League) are a bit concerned about sponsoring a game like Football?

This situation hurt me badly.

The Half Story of Dooars XI Football Team!

When I came through this current half story of Dooars XI football team (an initiative of #DoRight from IndiBlogger) it remind me my own story. Let me tell you all about my own childhood.

Dooars is an area, which is situated in North Bengal, and fortunately I am associated with the same. Although my native place is in Bhagalpur, Bihar, but Dooars was having a very close relationship with me. My father who is a retired Mathematics teacher (retired as a headmaster a few years back), was actually associated with the one and only one Hindi medium schools of that time of Dooars region. That school was Chengmari T. E. Hindi High School and fortunately I did my schooling from there only.

It was a mere coincidence that this half story belonged to my own area or was it about the game Football, I don’t know, but then something was there which forced me to blog about it and hopefully I can contribute a bit to help those football players too.

As I said that my schooling was completed from Chengmari T.E. Hindi High School only, and fortunately I was the school topper from there, I saw this game Football being played over there so much that I cannot explain them in words. I have seen the passion towards this game in the people of that area. I can never do explain that craziness in words, and I am quite sure that those who have never seen that passion from their own eyes will never ever understood the same too.

This half story is of some girls, who are football players, though from a very poor background. Despite facing so many issues, one thing which unites them all the time is their passion towards this game. They sell tea and breads to earn something, and this way they been able to play this game.

The thing which touched my heart badly is the fact that these girls were having no football gear of their own as well. I can truly believe this as I myself has seen these kinds of situation from the same area of West Bengal, in which the only source of income was Tea Estates.

Although it is a fact that I cannot help them any way as far as any financial helps is concerned, but I guess this blog of mine will certainly help them a bit to complete their story.

Well I guess when someone asked me this question: Is National Pride In Sports Limited To Cricket? My obvious response was a No. The thing is that we just need to support other games financially as well so that the players of those games can also do good. After all India is such a big country, but unfortunately we never represent us in Football World Cup. Is not this a matter of national shame for us?
