Mumbai - Where Are We Heading Towards?
Nov 12, 2009 India, Special Feature
Where are we heading towards? It is a question put forward by the people of India for the people of Mumbai. You must be thinking as to what I am talking about? Let me tell you a few incidents which allowed me to land upon this particular question!
The first one is the incident in which Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi took oath in Hindi and a few MNS leaders roughed up with him in the Maharashtra State Assembly. This was surely a shocking incident. How can any one stop some one from taking an oath in the National Language?
If you know a bit about the history of the Maharashtra Navnirmana Sena, popularly known as MNS, then you must be aware that the party was responsible for similar incidents in past too. The major incident was poking Marathi manush against north Indians which caused huge tension in Mumbai and in Maharashtra.
And now this incident is clearly telling that MNS and its boss Raj Thackrey are against Hindi the National Language. Every other leader has criticized this incident, but no one have the courage to stop the repetition of such shameful incidents. Only four MLA’s of MNS have been suspended for four years. The four MLA’s are: Shishir Shinde (Bhandup), Ramesh Wanjale (Kadakavasla Pune), Vasanth Geethe (Nagpur) and Ram Kadam (Ghatkopar).
I again found the statement of the newly elected Minister of State for Parliamentary affairs Mr. Vijay Wadettiwar who is recommending that the suspension period of these MLA’s should be reduced. The ground on which he is providing relief to them is that they are elected by the people, and it would be an injustice on the electorate to suspend them. How sad is it?
The second incident which came just a day after the first incident was the fight between the SP leader Abu Asim Azmi and a few Shiv Sena MLA’s. The incident happened in front of the State Assembly. Abu Asim Azmi made some remarks against Balasaheb Thackrey, which provoked the Shiv Sainik’s to perform such type of incidents. Although, their feelings for Balasaheb are understandable, but it is not a good way to react, since they are the representatives of the people.
Whom to blame for these incidents? In my honest opinion it is our fault, i.e. people, who choose these types of leaders.

First to correct yourself, India doesn’t have any national language. I request you to Google and find the online version of Indian constitution. Hindi and English are the official languages of the central government. Also elected members of the house can’t take oath in the 23 official languages of India..the language has to be approved by the speaker of the assembly.
