Hike in Bus Fare in Delhi!

Wednesday morning brought some tensions for Delhi residents. A few days back, Delhi Government increased the fare of the DTC buses, but due to some notification issues, the implementation took some time. From Wednesday morning onwards, Delhites have to pay an increased fare for traveling in the DTC buses and in the Blueline buses in Delhi.

On one hand, Delhi Government blames people for not using the public transport, and on the other hand, they come out with plans including increasing the bus fares in such a way that it brings huge burden on common man. Earlier the minimum bus fare for a distance of 4 Km was Rs.3, and now it has increased to Rs.5 for a distance of 3 KM. Now consider a scenario where a person is traveling a distance of 4 Km. Earlier he used to pay Rs. 3 for it, but from today onwards, he has to pay Rs.10 for it. So for him, the new system has increased the fare by almost 300%. In addition, the new slab includes the fares as mentioned: Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs.15.

Sheila Dixit the Chief Minister of Delhi, may give out clarifications that the increased fares would enhance the government economy, but for a common man, these changes are really horrible. If you travel in a Blueline bus on a regular basis, then you must have an idea as to how difficult it is to travel in a bus in Delhi. You will feel like as if you are going through hell. Even on DTC buses too, they are too much packed and it is really hard to travel in them as they never consider people as people. The DTC bus conductor and driver think that we are Spiderman and we can travel in any situation! They just flock the people like animals in their buses. The worst part is that if you are traveling in a DTC or Blueline bus, the use of polite language is out of question. The use of rough language is always on cards.

Although Delhi government has come out with plenty of Low Floor buses, but their services are also worst. For instance, the morning time is the worst time for people coming from Khanpur or Sheikh Sarai area towards Nehru Place. The travel buses from route number 534 buses travel in the opposite direction, which make the whole situation even worse. Similarly in the evening time, all the buses take an altogether different route, making it severe for the people who are waiting for them in the opposite direction.

If you consider the Autos of the Delhi, then they are good alternatives, provided you manage to get one of them. First of all, they will never agree to go with the meter charges. They will always demand almost double the normal charges. So if you do have some extra money then you can hire their prestigious services, but if you are a common man, then be ready to handle the tantrums of public transports. I just want to ask one simple question - Why don’t the government first increase the benefits and then the fare?

Frankly speaking, Bus Rapid Transit, the dream project of the Delhi Government has shown some rays of hope for people to travel in public vehicles rather than the private ones. But with almost no facilities or comforts, I don’t see people preferring the option of public transports in future! Then what are the options available in the hand of the common people? I guess nothing? No one cares about them in Delhi. If you do have a vehicle, then you can enjoy the long jams with comfort. Otherwise travel through DTC or Blueline buses and enjoy the crowded scenario.

I will tell the peoples of Delhi to come out and ask for this to government.
