Secret behind weight loss revealed!

What comes to mind when we talk of Arnold Schwarzenegger? Toned muscles and a robust physique? Surely the man who won Mr Olympia title seven times and Mr Universe title 3 times was not born with a great body. He had to work very hard to build a body of steel.  Technically, body building is the process of maximizing muscle hypertrophy.

Unlike simple workout body building requires a lot of discipline and hard work. Weight lifting techniques, regulation of nutritional intake, rest between the workouts, drinking plenty of water are some of the key factors in body building. You should be careful that the workout is no longer than 45 minutes in one go. It is very important to include resting periods between your sets and to concentrate on your workout. According to studies, any minute that you spend working out past the 45 minute limit, will decrease possible results and pose a risk for overtraining. Besides the workout should be done with minimum jerks. You should not stop moving during any part of your set. Some people go all the way down on squats, then come back up and lock their knees, rest for a second or two, then go back down. This is a serious mistake which should be avoided.

While doing body building, it’s very important to concentrate on your diet. A properly designed body building diet is the one which concentrates on fat loss. Ensure that your diet includes right amounts and types of proteins. To figure out your protein needs, multiply your total bodyweight by 1.2 and that will give you the total protein grams you need to consume per day. Divide that number by 6 and that equals the amount of protein grams per meal. Meats like chicken, turkey, and white fish such as tilapia are good sources of proteins. Besides proteins, other nutrients like carbohydrates, vegetables and other essential fats also have to be consumed in right proportions. Drink plenty of water as water is needed for muscle building and fat loss to happen optimally, in addition to creating a feeling of fullness that helps when one is dieting.

Body building is an activity which can turns heads for you. But it has to be practiced in the right manner to get the right results!

Plane Crashes in Ludhiana!

If you’re new here, and interested in the latest news and insights on news from India and world, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting I News India.

In another incident pointing towards the negligence of our government to ensure safety of its citizens, a 26-year old aircraft was being tested to fly the CM of Punjab, which crashed near Ludhiana. The six seater Beecraft C-90 King Air plane had taken off from Chandigarh at 10:50am and crashed in Jugiana village before it could reach Sahnewal airport in Ludhiana, killing its pilot and a co-pilot.

Those killed have been identified as Manjit Singh Khokhar and co-pilot Dalip Singh Kataria. They were the only two people on board the state government aircraft. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

This brings back the unpleasant memories of so many other planes which have crashed in a similar manner in the recent years. Why hasn’t the government taken any measures in spite of repeated loss of life and resources? Why such tragedies are left unattended after a few days of pseudo investigations? Why can’t we have latest and upgraded planes to ensure safety of everyone onboard? Why are we still stuck with age old planes to let people die like this?

It is a humble and urgent request to the government to look into the matter more seriously than it does, so that our faith in its rotten system can be restored.

From sports to technology, this year has been very promising for India. Indians were again given a reason to beam with pride today by the “lord of the rings” (as addressed fondly by his wife): Vishwanathan Anand. By beating Russia’s Vladimir Kramnik in Bonn on Wednesday, Anand has put every doubt about his supremacy in chess to rest. He is undoubtedly the world champion. He is the only person to emerge as the world champion in all formats – blitz, rapid, knockout, tournament and now the matchplay (which is regarded as the true test of a champion).

Anand was born on 11 December, 1969 in Chennai. His father is a retired general manager in Southern Railways. He developed his passion for chess due to the constant inspiration from his mother who was also his guru (his mother started teaching him chess when he was just 6 years of age).

He has done his schooling from Don Bosco School and finished graduation in B Com from Loyola College in Chennai. Jawaharlal Technology University conferred him the Honorary Doctorate degree at the age of 18. Besides playing chess, Anand also likes reading, swimming and listening to music.

Heartiest congratulations to Anand. All Indians are immensely proud of him and wish him all the best for all his future endeavors.

Home Sweet Home!

It’s said “Home is where the heart is”. A house becomes a home with warmth and love. Though the love of family members is what makes the home a cozy and comfortable place to live in, we can also add a little bit of geniality by making a little effort in remodeling it into a dream home.

Would you like to come back after a long and tiring day to a home which is full of clutter? On the contrary, imagine stepping into a clean, well arranged home. Half your exhaustion is gone when you are welcomed by a spic and span home. Remove all unnecessary stuff and de-clutter your home. Use ‘time since last used’ as your rule of thumb, if it’s been three years since you last used it, chances are its rubbish. If some things are very sentimental then box them and keep the treasure safely in a cupboard. Don’t let them muddle up your home.

Always make sure that you use fresh and well-ironed linen in your rooms. It is always very relaxing to come back and lie on a clean and fresh bed. Before leaving the room in the morning spray some room perfume, use a scent like rose, sandalwood or jasmine for a romantic air, or citrus, mint or pine for an uplifting effect.

Try to add the touch of flowers to your home as much as you can. Flowers help in decreasing depression, enriching memory and increasing social contact. You can also use pot pourri with added fragrance to enhance the beauty of the place as well make it more aromatic.

It’s very important to let sufficient amount of sun light to come into your home. More light and air develops more positivity in the house. You will feel more energetic and happy. So take extra precaution to ensure proper cross ventilation in your home.

By following the steps above you should find your house is a more beautiful, relaxing place to be. Remember that your home should be a safe, warm place for you to rest and recuperate at the end of a day.

Diwali - the festival of light, is round the corner and people are be busy shopping for clothes, sweets, candles and other puja materials at a feverish pace. But majority of these shopping lists also include crackers. Though more and more people are becoming aware about the hazards of fire crackers, there are a lot of people who are still ignorant about the dangerous effects of these crackers. Let’s try and analyze the ill-effects of fire crackers on our health and environment today.

Fire crackers are a major source of noise and air pollution. Sudden as well as continuous loud noise can have adverse effect on expectant mothers as well as the unborn child. Loud noise can disrupt sleep and lead to sleeplessness. Young children generally get scared by the high decibel noise. This can trigger of permanent feeling of fear and insecurity in them. The blasting sounds caused by fire crackers which send the decibel levels soaring instantaneously could cause permanent or temporary impairment to the ear drums. Moreover, the noise and dazzling light could cause optical as well as ENT - related problems.   These crackers are loaded with chemicals and heavy metallic compounds, which if inhaled can lead to asthmatic conditions, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis and other respiratory health problems. Fireworks should be handled with utmost care.

Children should never be allowed to play with them without the assistance of adults. These crackers burn approximately at the same temperature as the match stick so if proper care is not taken, they can cause burns and other skin injuries.

Use crackers with precaution

Use crackers with precaution

Some precautions which should be taken while playing with firecrackers are:

  • Light crackers in open spaces only.
  • Wear cotton clothing while lighting fire crackers.
  • Never wear synthetic or silk clothes as they catch fire instantly.
  • Always wear close-fitting clothes of thick material instead of loose or flowing garments.
  • Do not light any fire crackers in your own hand.
  • Maintain a safe distance from the fire crackers.
  • Avoid bending over them.
  • Make sure you keep a tub of water handy while lighting fire crackers.
  • In case of burns, hold the part affected under cold running water and take the patient to the hospital immediately.
  • Flying fireworks - rockets, missiles, etc. should always be lighted in open grounds pointing straight up.

Enjoy cracking but buy only legally manufactured firecrackers.

Let’s pledge that we will all try and contribute towards a healthier and cleaner Diwali this time. Diwali is a festival of lights. Let’s all celebrate it by lighting more and more lamps and candles and lesser crackers to prevent converting it into tragedy for someone even by mistake.

A few tips for those who are preparing for CAT Exam!

If you’re new here, and interested in the latest news and insights on news from India and world, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting I News India.

This time of the year you can generally see anxiety and stress on the faces of all B-School aspirants because they are continuously preparing themselves for the biggest challenge of their lives. “Cracking CAT”. Those 2.5 hours decide the future of thousands of hopefuls. Strategizing, mock CAT’s, time management: these are all mandatory and have their own importance when it comes to making the CAT attempt meaningful.  After all success is just one correct answer away!

The first and foremost thing to do is set up a schedule for yourself. CAT preparation involves a lot of discipline because it’s all about concentration and reflex. You will have to be mentally prepared to sacrifice your weekend fun and long sleeping hours to practice the mock tests. These mock tests are very important and should be taken very seriously because they help you gauge your caliber very accurately. You get a clear picture of where you stand, what are your strengths and weaknesses and which areas you need to concentrate more on. At the end of every mock test all candidates are given a thorough solution list. Answering more and more mock tests is not the right approach. What is important is to analyze the solutions and use them when you spot a problem of similar nature sometime later on. The next crucial factor is time management. There is hardly enough time to read the question and think about its solution in CAT. You need to be very quick and sharp to crack the code.

You cannot afford to be slow from the very beginning. The momentum has to be build right from the very question itself. Another useful strategy is to know your strengths clearly. There are different sections in CAT. You might be good in some and might need extra time for others. Try to tackle the sections you are good at in the beginning. This will not only boost your confidence but will help you manage your remaining time more judiciously.

Always remember, every person is not a born genius and CAT is not only for those who are blessed with extraordinary intellect. With strict perseverance and discipline, you can also make your dreams come true.

Armed Forces want revise of the clauses of sixth pay commission report!

If you’re new here, and interested in the latest news and insights on news from India and world, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting I News India.

The Armed Forces are furious over the government’s inaction to revise of the clauses of sixth pay commission report that are related to armed forces. The armed forces have refused to accept the sixth pay commission report after their demands were rejected by the government.

Due to the strong negative feelings of the armed forces against the 6th Pay commission’s recommendation for the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mr. Manmoham Singh has set up a committee to look into the matter. This committee, which includes the defense minister Pranab Mukherjee, is set up to propose a 40 to 60 per cent increase over and above the hike suggested by the panel. The committee will look into “anomalies” in the notification of new pay scales for the armed forces by the 6th Pay Commission. It is expected to submit its report by the end of October.

The government has announced ad hoc payment of arrears to all ranks. These range from Rs 25,000 for jawans to Rs 50,000 for subedar-majors. Lieutenants can expect Rs 55,000 and Lt-Generals Rs 2.25 lakh.

The major reason for not accepting the Six pay commission’s report is that while the Lt-Colonel rank officers have been lowered by retaining them in Pay Band-3 (Rs 15,600-39,100), the civilians and paramilitary officers have been raised to level PB-4 (Rs 37,400-67,000).

Demand of Defense forces is to renew the parity of grade pay for lower and middle rung Service officers with their civilian counterparts, who are going to get more as per the new pay scales. Then, of course, the armed forces are also angry that all director-generals of police and their equivalents have been placed over Lt-Generals by the creation of a new “higher administrative grade-plus”.

Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus!

If you’re new here, and interested in the latest news and insights on news from India and world, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting I News India.

The reasons for differences in behavioral characteristics and traits of men and women have always been a little enigmatic for all of us.  Several theories have been proposed as to why men retreat to the “cave” and why a “wave” is a natural cycle for women. There have been many insightful books like “Men are from mars and Women are from Venus” that chalk out these differences of the two sexes. Let’s try and analyze one such difference between men and women today through this forum. Are females blessed with better judgment abilities than men?

Let’s reverse time to the prehistoric ages when men went out to hunt animals, often for days or weeks away from their families: sometimes in groups and sometimes alone, while the females took care of the household chores and the children, together with the other females and were never alone. Men used their intelligence to set up traps and to chase the animals in a clever way. Their judgments helped them to overcome the power of their prey in hunting. Their intelligence helped them be better judges of the unpredictable environments in which they used to hunt. If they went out alone, there would be no interaction with other humans where they could learn the art of recognizing facial expressions, emotions, feelings in other people, and detect cheating, lying, deceiving and dishonesty. Even if they went with a group, their sole purpose of interaction would be to chalk out strategies of hunting rather than socializing. On the other hand, women became better judges of human emotions because they had to constantly monitor these emotions in their children (females had to be good in recognizing the emotions of their children to find out when they were sick, hungry, thirsty etc). Not only this, since womenfolk stayed together in the absence of men folk, they had to develop socializing and networking skills. This would bring them in close contact with individuals of different characteristics, making them better judges of human emotions.

The crux of this discussion is that where men are better at planning and making strategies, women have been given the gift of an understanding heart to comprehend emotions.
