Ansar Burney deported back to Dubai from India!

Pak activist, Ansar Burney, who fought for the release of Indian death row prisoners Kashmir Singh and Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan, was deported back to Dubai from New Delhi on Friday night.

It was reported that a “look-out” notice against him was issued which lead Burney, the leading Pakistani human rights activist, to deport back from the Indira Gandhi International Airport by an Emirates Airways flight at around 2030 hours.

Home Ministry officials, however, could not say who had issued the notice against Burney and in what connection. Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs said Burney’s deportation could have been due to “some mistake”.

After his deportation, Burney’s son disclosed this information to some journalists in Delhi through an e-mail.

Burney had visited India in April this year and he had met Sarabjit’s family in Amritsar. He had also met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon on April 8.

Burney had successfully secured the release of Kashmir Singh, who spent 35 years on death row in a Lahore jail, on February 20 this year as President Pervez Musharraf approved his mercy petition filed on the Indian’s behalf by the Human Rights ministry.

Airport sources said the reason given to Burney for deportation was that he had wrongly mentioned his port of embarkation.

Burney is doing his best efforts to save Indian nation Sarabjit Singh, blamed for bomb blasts in Lahore in 1990, who took away 14 lives. It was his efforts that led to Pakistan government’s indefinitely postponing execution of Sarabjiit earlier this month.

Katara murder case: life term to Vikas & Vishal!

Vishal Vikas YadavThe Delhi Fast Track Court on Friday awarded life sentences to Vikas and Vishal Yadav, the accused of the Nitish Katara murder case after six years long trial.

The prosecution gave his arguments for death penalty to the accused but finally the court settled for life term punishment and concluded that Vikas was a habitual offender considering his involvement in the Jessica Lal murder case.  The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh each on both the convicts.

Two days after Vikas and Vishal Yadav were convicted by Delhi court on Wednesday, the court found the two accused guilty of murdering Nitish Katara, six years back.

The two were also accountable of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence and the court charged them under sections 302, 364, 201 and 34 of the IPC. The maximum punishment under these sections is death while minimum is a life sentence.

Shortly after the verdict was announced, mother of the victim, Nilam Katara said that she was satisfied with the court’s judgment.

Katara, son of an IAS officer, was allegedly killed by accused Vikas and his cousin Vishal Yadav on the intervening night of February 16-17, 2002. They had allegedly abducted the victim from a marriage function in Ghaziabad. They smashed his head with a hammer and then tried to burn his dead body which leaded the prosecution to categorize it into a case of ‘rarest of rare category’- the condition required for death sentence.

It was reported that the accused had killed the victim as they did not approve of his alleged relations with Sister Bharati Yadav.

Yeddyurappa First CM from BJP in South IndiaB S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on Friday. The new government will seek a trust vote in the Assembly June 6, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said after taking office.

He is the first time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader to write a new chapter in Karnataka`s political history.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at 1.50 pm in the Vidhana Soudha, the seat of power, heralding the era of governance by the Saffron party in its maiden innings in south of Vindhyas.

The newly elected Assembly will meet June 4, 5 and 6, Yeddyurappa told reporters after the first meeting of his cabinet, sworn in earlier by Governor Rameshwar Thakur.

The first day of the three-day session will be devoted to the 224 members taking oath. The new Speaker will be elected the next day and the trust vote will be sought on the last day, as scheduled by the cabinet.

Yeddyurappa said, “My government is determined to implement in phased manner all the promises made in the election manifesto.”

The manifesto promises, among other things, free power to farmers and loans to farmers at an interest rate of three percent per annum. Yeddyurappa promised to give priority to education, health, nutrition and social justice.

“We will also implement former President APJ Abdul Kalam`s 2020 vision,” Yeddyurappa said.

BJP winning 110 seats out of 224 and falling short by three numbers for simple majority defeated the designs by Congress and JD(S) to block six independents from lending support by successfully netting them.

Controversies clouds of IPL!

IPL Twenty-20 is the latest cricket fashion which is rocking in the cricket world nowadays. After 56 matches, the semis of the league are going to start today with the battle between Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals. It is getting popularity among the cricket fans but the same is surrounded with lots of controversies and gossips since its start.

Before the start of the IPL, the issue of boycotting the coverage by the media gave a major jolt to this league. The IPL was reported to have sold the new media rights to the Twenty20 tournament to an unnamed US web company in a $50m deal. BCCI had said that all photographers covering IPL matches were mandatory required to upload photographs on IPL’s official website at their own cost which was later rejected to soften media norms for IPL.

After a lot of pressure mounted by the issue, the matter is resolved but it was just a starting. Eligibility of Shoiab Akhtar for IPL made the headlines after this issue. PCB has banned Shoiab Akhtar for 5 years to represent Pakistan but as a professional player he was likely to be eligible to play for Kolkata Knight Riders. BCCI didn’t want to create any problem so asked him to get permission from PCB failing which he was not allowed to play for KolKata Knight Riders. Only a week after PCB has stayed the order by a month and new enquiry will take place after that. Due to this he is now available to Knight Riders for selection.

Anyhow, these gossips were just trailers only. The big picture came into light with a new controversy. Harbhajan-Sreeshanth slap row was a biggest jolt to the IPL as well as to the cricket history. It was a shocking incident of slapping by Harbhajan after the Kings XI Vs. Mumbai Indians clash in Mohali on April 25 which left the cricketers embarrassed. The incident flamed up when the BCCI asked the short tempered Harbhajan to explain the action. Frustrated with his lose, Bhajji slapped Sreesanth and the incident is caught by cameras of media. The issue was bounced high by the media thereafter. Finally the issue came to an end on May 14 when Bhajji was banned for 5 ODIs and was warned by the Cricket Board of a life ban for any further misconduct on his part. That was one of the very toughest times for the career of the 27-year-old off spinner Harbhajan.

Later BCCI also banned an umpire to stand in a match on this topic. The umpire has made any comment on the Sreesanth’s behavior and he got the reward.

Sehwag was no more left away from controversies. The match between Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers was stopped at a very crucial point in the 19th over when Shewag complained to the umpires that the crowd is throwing stones at him. Sehwag was very upset with the incident which wiped off the happiness of his victory in the match.

Shahrukh-Ganguly tashan was one more sensational gossip of IPL. A reported rift between Kolkata Knight Rider’s owner Shahrukh Khan and skipper Sourav Ganguly came in light after the team’s poor performance against the Rajasthan Royals which cost them their chance to feature in the top four teams. The two have also conflicts over various issues like team selection, team combination and player selection. Shahrukh Khan and Captain Sourav Ganguly had different opinions about team composition and players to buy during the auction. The other major reason for the rift is Shahrukh’s faith in coach John Buchanan that saw him giving more powers to the Australian in team issues surpassing Ganguly. The King Khan further upset Ganguly by announcing that Buchanan would be taking control of the team next season. Bid for the players in the auction was another issue between them. The two however now says that there are no differences between them and all issues are resolved now.

Shahrukh was also warned by the BCCI to follow Code of Conduct in cricket. The Anti Corruption Unit officials had cautioned the actor about going into the dressing room and the team dug out during the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. BCCI supported the law against Srk also. King Khan was highly disappointed by this issue and the warning. He even said that he would keep him away from IPL now. But later he was permitted to cheer the team from dug out.

Now come to the colorful part of IPL. Cheerleaders, which are new in Indian cricket, gave a new color to the game but on the same side it gave rise to a hot debate among the politicians and the officials. Vijay Mallya, the owner of the Bangalore Royal Challengers, started the trend of keeping the cheer-leaders with the team and others followed. There was a lot of hue and cry about the dressing of these cheer leaders. They were finally made to wear so called decent looking clothes by the moral brigade of Mumbai. Political leaders also gave their comments in the matter. Some protested it while others found nothing insane in the dancing of cheerleaders. But still the cheerleaders are cheering the viewers and fans of cricket in the play.

Another issue which rose on cheerleaders was the racial abuse directed towards two dark skinned cheerleaders hired by the Kings XI Punjab team. They have alleged that they were asked to sit out just before the April 19 match of the IPL played in Mohali because they were not white. Cheerleaders Ellesha Newton and Sherinne Anderson were banned from performing at a major cricket match in India.

Shane Warne and Ganguly’s views on field leaded a new controversy in IPL. Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Shane Warne lodged a complaint against his Kolkata Knight Riders counterpart Sourav Ganguly for resorting to time-wasting tactics during their IPL match and refusing to accept the fielder’s word on a “clean catch”. Ganguly dismissed the Australian’s claim that he had violated the spirit of the game by indulging in delaying tactics and refusing to accept the fielder’s words on a ‘clean catch’.  Later Shane Warne and Sourav Ganguly fined 10 per cent of match fees. Shane Warne fined for his comments in press conference. Ganguly fined for his on-field behavior.

Recently a complaint has been filed against Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia for allegedly publicly insulting and using derogatory language against Mohali police chief Ranbir Singh Khatra during Friday’s IPL match between the Punjab team and Deccan Chargers at PCA stadium, Mohali.

The police officer lodged a complaint with Mohali deputy commissioner that Wadia had used “insulting” language on him. The complaint also encircled IPL commissioner Lalit Modi for smoking in the Long Room of the PCA stadium in an earlier IPL match.

One more issue is in the air. Despite loosing the semi final berth Mumbai Indians are hosting the semi finals and final in Mumbai, since the owner of Mumbai Indians has bid the highest value for the team. So this issue has created some sort of flame. Skipper of Rajasthan Royals Shane Warne is not happy with this. He was looking for hosting the semi finals in the top two teams place.

So these are a few colorful events from the cricketing world of India, but I am not sure where the cricket in between these issues is?

Inflation reaches 8.1% despite Govt’s efforts!

Once again inflation rate has reached a new height of 8.1% to give stress marks on the forehead of government and the public. Inflation struck at 8.1% for the week ending May 17 against 7.82% for the week ending May 10 in the face of surging international crude oil prices.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram, is however, still confident to suppress the rate and control the surging prices in India. The Finance Minister added that authorities may take more steps to control inflation if needed.

“It is worrisome, but we are confident of gaining mastery over inflation,” he said.

The inflation was 7.82 percent for the week ended May 10 as compared to 7.83 percent for the previous week, said the official figures released today.

During the corresponding week a year ago, the inflation stood at 5.62 percent.

Amid speculation of rise in prices of petroleum products, inflation is likely to remain high for the next 3-4 months. Analysts said that increase in the fuel price will further raise the inflation.

The Reserve Bank and government must have to take additional monetary and fiscal measures to control the rate.

Stop politics of castes!

Before reading this article, answer my simple questions please. From which category you belong? General, SC, ST or OBC? I think I should put different rules and content for different categories. You must get confused by the lines. But if politics of reservation is spreading in all fields of life then this blog should also follow the same. Isn’t it?

Politics of castes is casting its shadow over Indians since long ago. The ongoing Gujjar agitation is the fresh example of the evil of castisms. Over 40 people have already lost their lives demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to get job reservation for their community. NCR and Rajasthan region are highly affected by this show of reservation and quotas. Innocent people are killed for no reason. Violence is spreading behind this politics. Why the Government and opposition are not doing anything? A year ago the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan resulted in police firing and over 20 deaths.

We humans live on the same Earth, every human have same red blood, and every one has a heart to feel and a mind to think then why to be divided on the basis of this ugly castism. We people travel together in trains and buses. Do you ask the nearby people about their caste before sitting in a train? Our children read together in schools. Do you enquire about the other children’s caste before admitting your child in the school? Then what is the benefit of this system if it is spreading only violence and gives rise to hatred among people?

Political leaders are just making their benefits behind the reservation system. They divide the nation and confirm their profits between others fight. Caste-based reservation is a quick-fix for getting strictly limited political support and it has no real value. The most ironical aspect of this issue is that reservation on the basis of caste is something which even our Constitution does not support. The main motto behind giving the reservation was the development of the poor people, and the original resolution in the Constitution of India was made for 10 year only, but no one revised the status again. Unless there is radical reappraisal of India’s political system and culture, the nation will continue to blunder from crisis to crisis.

There seems no justification for caste based reservations in the educational system. Reservations for the students are making them lazy towards their efforts as they know well that their seat is reserved and will get it easily. Other students who work hard and deserve the seat lose. Is it right justice with them?

Reserved category students get good concessions from the institute. Whatever be their financial status they have to pay only a small amount of money as the fees. But in the same college, a poor student has to pay more just because he or she belongs to General category. Isn’t it unfair?

Yes it is wrong, we all know and abolishing this reservation system only can help the deserving students to get the admissions and needy ones to get the proper concession. Everybody agrees that the caste system is wrong and those who support it do not belong in twenty first century.

Now it is the time to wake up and find the solution of the politics behind the so called reservation system. The problem can be resolved by abolishing the caste system. Why don’t we all unite to be Indians? Is there any need to divide the united nation on the basis of caste?

The young generation of India can only solve this crucial matter. The sooner these shortcomings are abolished the better. Young India is smart and educated. They have power to change. They know their rights and they know the right way of development of their country. They reached up to Moon and Mars by their intelligence. They have made a car which can swim and another which can run at a speed of 250 Km/litre fuel to combat fuel crisis. Then why they do not understand that the reservation system is depleting their nation like a termite.

It is a humble appeal to Young India, government and the Indian politicians to stop usage of politics to divide India on the basis of caste, creed and community and region.
