40% salary hike: 6th Pay Commission!

Finanace Minister P ChidambaramThe sixth pay commission has suggested a 40% hike in salaries of Central Governmant staff anf officers along with their counterparts in defence and paramilitary forces. The report is submitted to Finanace Minister P Chidambaram on Monday by Justice B N Srikrishna.

The current HRA in A1 cities is asked to retain the same according to reports but for HRA in non-A1 cities, the panel has recommended a hike of 10-20%.

50 per cent of salary is recommended as pension at the age of 80, 90, 95 and 100. Retirement age is increased to 62. Further, the Commission has recommended that the pay scales of Central government staff and officers, and their counterparts in the defence and paramilitary forces be revised from January 1, 2006.

Central government employees’ remuneration includes a basic salary, a 50% dearness pay merged with the basic and a 47% dearness allowance of the total.

Five working days are suggested with only three national holidays ending all other gazetted leaves. However, Maternity leave is increased to six months.

Pay hike to cost Rs 13,000 to 16,000 crores to government exchequer is recommended.

Excluding the arrears that would accrue to the 55 lakh employees, the annual impact of the new wage jump is estimated at Rs 12,561 crore.

The Commission, headed by Justice B N Srikrishna, was constituted in October 2006 and it had been given 18 months to submit its report. The panel’s recommendations are likely to benefit an estimated 4.5 million Central government employees.

It is false propaganda that salaries have been hiked by 40%. Only wieghtage of 40% of pre-revised pay (DA not included) has been been added. Real hike in pay plus DA is only around 20%.

THE UNJUSTIFIED REDUCTION IN THE PERCENTAGE OF DEARNESS ALLOWANCE WITH EFFECT FROM 1-1-2006!

    Dear Readers!

The Present Percentage of DA is as follows.
    From 1-1-2006- 24%
    From 1-7-2006-29% [5%]
    From 1-1-2007-35% [6%]
    From 1-7-2007-41% [6%]
    From 1-1-2008-47% [6%]
    From 1-7-2008-55% [8%]

The Proposed Percentage of DA by the 6TH Pay Commission is as follows.
    From 1-1-2006-No DA
    From 1-7-2006-2%
    From 1-1-2007-6% [4%]
    From 1-7-2007-9% [3%]
    From 1-1-2008-12%[3%]

It can be seen that from 1-7-2006, the Percentage is reduced by 60%,from 1-1-2007 by 33.33%,from 1-7-2007 by 50% and from 1-1-2008 by 50%.It is stated that the Proposed Percentage from 1-7-2008 is 12% [4%]

At first, the Government propagated that there will be 40 to 50% increase. Then it modified it as 28% increase. Now it says that there will be an average increase of 21%.
According to the available information, the increase expected will be only around 20%.
So, the reduction of the Percentage of DA ranging from 33.33% to 60% is wholly unjustified. Justice demands only a reduction of 20% from the existing DA.

So, the Proposed Percentage of DA on the New Scales of Pay should be as follows.
From 1-7-2006- 4%, from 1-1-2007-5%, from 1-7-2007-5%, from 1-1-2008-5% and from 1-7-2008- 6.5%. So, the total percentage of DA as on 1-7-2008 should be 25.5% and not 16% as propagated.
Will the Central Govt look into this and do justice?

    Dear Sir,

In the interest of the common man who is overburdened by the recent inflation and medical costs besides, cost of living, the Maharashtra State Govt. should take up the matter of accepting and executing the recommendations of the 6th CPC on a war footing.

I work for a State Govt. PSU and will soon be retiring with just the lumpsum amount with no pension benefits. Sanctioning the Gratuity Amount to Rs.10 lakhs would give me a reason to smile as I have put in more than 40 years of a hard struggle.

I sincerely request the Maharashtra State Govt. to look into the needs of a common man and bring cheer to him in his old age.

    Thanks.

  25. CJG Says:

It seems the Maharashtra Govt. has increased the Gratuity amount from Rs.5 lakhs to Rs.7 lakhs for govt. employees retiring w.e.f 1st September, 2009. Is this fair justice to employees who retired prior to this date? When the scheme in totallity is accepted from 1st Jan. 2006 then why come out with different slabs for gratuity on different dates. Please Mr.Chief Minister consider all employees for Rs.7 lakhs gratuity from 1st January 2006 onwards. We need your help in this way atleast.
